JUROR OF AWARDS

Joseph Sundwall
A native of Chicago, Joseph Sundwall found his path as an artist as a child and his talent was encouraged by his family and teachers.  He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and enjoyed a successful career in New York City as a graphic artist before turning back to fine arts again at the Arts Student League, the National Academy of Design, and St. Oswald’s Studio of London.  Today, Joseph divides his time between figure painting and landscape, which usually includes animals and, of late, birds in particular.  His painting style relies in great part on wet-into-wet techniques, plus the juxtaposition of areas of flat paint with modeling and vigorous brushwork playing off areas of studied strokes. Joseph has taught oil painting privately in NJ and NY, and regularly demonstrates the art of portrait painting before arts associations. He recently moved to Montgomery, NY, and has enjoyed painting en plein air in the Hudson Valley. Joseph is represented by J.M. Stringer Gallery in Vero Beach, FL, and Portraits North in Lexington, MA.  If you would like to learn more about Joseph, please visit www.josephsundwall.com.
