Gallatin Art Crossing (GAC) is pleased to announce Call for Entries for the 2022-23’ show and installation. Creation or contribution for the Gallatin Art Crossing is an opportunity to have your work marketed and on display in downtown Bozeman, Montana for one year and available for sale during that time. Submission fee is $25 per piece and the application deadline is June 10, 2022, with the installation and reception in August. Applications must be submitted electronically through the CaFE platform. Pieces need to be ready to install and withstand outdoor conditions without maintenance for one year.

PROJECT DETAILS
The GAC exhibit hosts a variety of artwork introducing viewers to many artistic approaches. The main focus of the organization is to select and place sculptures throughout the Bozeman area. An additional goal of the program is to add at least one piece to our permanent public collection each year. The community assists in this process by voting for their favorite sculptures online which helps the board select the People’s Choice Award winner. The winning piece, along with two to three additional pieces are then voted on by the GAC board for possible purchase and permanent placement.

1. Artwork Specifications
Works may be in any media and must be durable and sustainable to withstand the elements as well as interaction with pedestrians and the general public. Works may be functional or non-functional and must meet these specifications to be considered:

  • Demonstrate structural soundness, safety and stability for an unsupervised general audience. Must be durable and able to withstand the elements.
  • Be guaranteed against defects and deterioration.
  • Fit into a downtown/sculpture park setting.
  • Sustainable for a minimum of 1 year without maintenance.

2. Installation & Design Parameters
All selected pieces will be installed during the same week at the end of August. The 2022 dates are August 24-31. Installation times and logistics must be finalized with GAC before August 19 to make sure we are able to get the necessary equipment and personnel scheduled. All pieces must arrive ready for install and meet these requirements:

  • Substantial base plate or flanges. Please include at least one photo of attaching areas.
  • Plate or flanges must allow for 5/8” or 3/4” bolted connections. GAC anchors all sculptures to preexisting concrete pads using  1/2” hardware.
  • Email specific questions to: info@GallatinArtCrossing.org

3. Duration of Installation
The selected sculptures will be open to the viewing public for 12 months from August 2022 to August 2023. Should the artist decide to keep their piece in place for more than 12 months, this agreement will remain in place until it is removed from the GAC program. Artists may have the option to keep their same work in the show on a case by case scenario. All Sculptures will be displayed with a plaque containing the artist name and program information. Artists give GAC irrevocable reproduction rights, copyrights, and permissions, in connection with the photographs/negatives/videos/digital images taken of them during the installation period, to use and reuse said photographs/negatives/videos/digital images either by themselves or in conjunction with other photographs/negatives/videos/digital images in any medium and for any purposes related to GAC programs and services as well as using their names in connection therewith.

4. Stipend
GAC will offer $1,000 stipends to all new artists for 2022, to be distributed within 30 days after the opening reception. We must have a completed W-9 from each new artist prior to releasing their stipend. We will also provide lodging for out of town artists upon request. The artist is responsible for transportation and installation and decommissioning of the artwork. The Art Crossing will provide signage to identify the artwork, feature the artist on our website, www.GallatinArtCrossing.org and will also feature the artist on a mobile tour.

5. People’s Choice Award
Sculptures are displayed and voted for online at www.GallatinArtCrossing.org. The board will compile the ballots and award the People’s Choice Award prior to the annual reception in August. The winning artist will receive a $500 award and the winning piece will be featured on all printed and online marketing materials throughout the following year.

6. Purchases
The GAC will handle all sales to the public while the piece is installed in the program and will retain 35% of the agreed upon price. The commission will decrease by 5% per year the piece remains on display as part of the Art Crossing, up to 3 years at which time the commission will remain at 20%. One of the goals of the GAC is to purchase at least one piece each year. GAC will pay asking price minus the current commission percentage for each piece it purchases for the permanent collection.

  • Private Purchase - If a piece is sold to a private buyer during the year, the buyer is asked to retrieve the piece at the end of the twelve month period.

7. Submission Deadline
Applications must be submitted electronically through the CaFE platform by 11:59pm on June 10, 2022 any submissions received after that time will not be considered. Artists will be notified of their acceptance into the program no later than 14 days after the submission deadline.
