Redmond Oregon is located in Central Oregon in the high desert environment. The City has recently passed a new mural code that lets murals be placed in accordance with RCAPP (Redmond Commission on Art in Public Places) guidelines.  This current project is limited ONLY to artists living in the state of Oregon. RCAPP is seeking an artist/artist team to design, fabricate & install a mural at the location shown in enclosed materials.  The site is in downtown Redmond, & has high visibility. The selected artist/s will be awarded a contract in the amount of $10,000 for all phases of the project. Additionally, up to $2,000 is available in reimbursed materials/installation stipend from the building's owner. The total maximum amount available to complete the project is $12,000 which includes all necessary elements to successfully design, fabricate, & install the mural. The minimum size for the mural is 300 square feet.  The configuration of how that 300 sf is achieved will be left up to the artist to determine. Larger sized murals can be proposed, but the total budget will not increase. Enclosed photos show various potential layouts & available wall surfaces for the mural. These are only "examples" of possible areas & sizes.

RCAPP will review & select up to 5 finalists based upon their resumes &  previous work examples, with weight given to those with past mural experience. These finalists will be asked to complete a full proposal for their concept for this mural site. The finalists that are not awarded the commission will be given an honorarium of $250 for their completion of the full proposals for the mural site. The artist/s selected for the commission will awarded a contract for $10,000 from the City of Redmond, plus up to $2,000 in reimbursable materials/installation expenses from the building's owner for a total maximum amount of $12,000 to complete the project. This will include design images depicting the artist/s concept for the mural site & installation details on how the mural will constructed & placed at the site.

This mural project is open to various concepts including representational works, abstract or non-objective visuals, etc.  We anticipate 2 dimensional concepts but we are open to designs that may also include three dimensional elements (please note safety concerns to pedestrians passing the building if utilizing 3d elements). The size requirements are that the mural be a minimum of 300 square feet in area. The size of the mural can be increased, at the artist's discretion, but the budget is capped at the $10,000 plus up $2k in reimbursed materials/installation costs. It is requested that the mural be fabricated on panels which will be installed on the building walls for the final installation.

The mural shall remain in place for a period of at least 2 years and anticipate it being in place for years.  It will become the property of the City of Redmond.  The mural should be designed & fabricated so that it can be installed on panels which can be attached to the building's walls by the artist. The selected artist/s will be required to enter into a contract with the City of Redmond, Oregon.

Artists must be 18 years of age or older.  Budgets are inclusive of all artist fees, travel, lodging, insurance, etc.
