ELIGIBILITY:
Open to artists with physical, cognitive, visual and hearing disabilities. Only work executed after the onset of disability or injury is eligible. All works must be for sale. Art previously exhibited in Art Ability is not eligible for submission. Reproduction prints will not be accepted. Artists must state their disability. Selling price is required. When stating selling price, it should reflect FRAMED artwork.

ELIGIBLE MEDIA INCLUDES:
Works on paper, Works on Canvas or Board, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Jewelry, Photography and Fine crafts.

SALES AND LIABILITY:
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital (BMRH) will retain a 20% commission on all sales of exhibited work, multiples, and those commissioned in the show. For sales of work during the 11-week exhibition the commission is 20%. We will return works accepted for the exhibition which do not sell during the 11-week exhibition. In some cases artists are invited to take part in Art Ability's ongoing sales and exhibitions programs. For sales of work sold during Art Ability's ongoing sales and exhibitions programs the commission is 40%. An artist signed Consignment Agreement is a prerequisite for Art Ability's ongoing sales and exhibitions program. Payments are made by check in US dollars.

Donations to the Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital permanent collection are arranged on a case by case basis when agreed upon mutually by artist and curator.

Permission is hereby granted to allow BMRH to photograph, publicize and otherwise appropriately use the works submitted for the exhibition for various types of publicity, educational and public relations purposes.

JURY AND AWARDS PROCESS:
Initial review of submissions will be conducted by the Art Ability committee and exhibition curator. Artists accepted will be asked to send actual framed work. Distinguished members of the greater Philadelphia arts community award prizes in several artistic categories.

More than $7,000 in prizes will be awarded. All work will be eligible for prizes of $1,000, $500, $250, $200, $150 and $50.

Alida Fish, Professor of Photography, University of the Arts
Gary Steuer, Chief Cultural Officer, City of Philadelphia, Office of the Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy
Adelina Vlas, Assistant Curator, Modern and Contemporary Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art

Please Note: acceptance of a work based on electronic images does not guarantee inclusion. The jurors reserve the right to final selection for exhibition when viewing actual work.

NOTIFICATION:
Artists will be notified of preliminary acceptance by August 8, 2012.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: July 6, 2012
NOTE: applications in CaFE close at Midnight Mountain Time, on the day set in the Applications Deadline date.

SUBMISSION PROCESS:
The preferred method of submission is online via the CaFE System. However, submission by mail of images on CD will also be accepted, and requires a $20 processing fee. Checks payable to BMRH. Please download the required PDF forms at www.mainlinehealth.org/ArtAbility or email ArtAbility@mlhs.org.

There is no entry fee when using the CaFETM System.

SHIPPING:
Once accepted for the exhibition, artists are required to ship their artwork in reusable cartons or crates so it can be used to return the work if unsold at the end of the exhibition. Works will be insured for shippingin the amount of the stated value.

NOTE: This year, thanks to a generous grant, BMRH is pleased to cover the cost of artwork being shipping TO the exhibit - as well as the costs of returning any unsold work. Artists will receive further details once work is accepted.

Work that needs to be shipped must meet FedEx size and weight requirements. See www.fedex.com for more information. Due to hospital constraints, artwork may not exceed 48" overall height. Sculpture weighing more than 25 lbs will not be accepted.

Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital’s Art Ability is an international, juried exhibition and sale of art and fine crafts that features work by artists with physical, cognitive, hearing and visual disabilities.

The 2012-2013 Annual Art Ability Exhibit and Sale is on display from November 3, 2012 through January 20, 2013 at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital in Malvern, PA.
