Call Description

New College East and New College West, located just south of Poe Field, will be Princeton's seventh and eighth residential colleges. Their construction advances one of Princeton's highest strategic priorities — expanding the undergraduate population. The two residential colleges each house an additional 500 undergraduates. These colleges will be vibrant communities that provide dormitory, dining, and social space, with access to advising, academic and cultural activities, intramural sports, and study breaks. They will foster environments where all members of a diverse campus community can engage with and learn from each other.

As part of this effort, a visual arts program is being shaped for these new spaces that will anchor the art on its walls within the lived experience of each community. This new visual arts installation is expected to be unveiled in Fall 2022.

To that end, submissions of works of art are sought that will embrace one or more of the following broad themes:

 -      Regeneration

-       Community

-       Whimsy

-       Diverse Histories

-       Home

-       Exploration

Printmaking, photography, and other reproductive media are preferred, although flat work in all media are welcome.

All University students (both undergraduate and graduate), staff, faculty, and alumni are warmly invited to submit works of art for consideration. Works of art submitted for inclusion in previous University projects, such as the Art of Science or Prospect House, are eligible. A selection committee, working with the University’s Campus Art Steering Committee, hopes to select artwork representative of the broad range of experience of individuals within the University community.

Application Requirements

In order to be considered please submit one or more digital images of works you wish to be considered for selection, along with the following information:

-       Title

-       Dimensions

-       Medium

-       Any relevant special consideration

-       An artist’s statement is welcome but not required; if included, it must not exceed 250 words.

Eligibility Criteria

An affiliation with Princeton University--past or present--is required.
