Exhibition Details

The Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is looking forward to hosting the seventh annual Southern California MFA Annual Juried Exhibition. This will be a juried show featuring a wide variety of different artistic disciplines along with an opening reception for the public. The call for art is open to all Southern California MFA Studio Art students with an address in California. Initially founded by California State University Fullerton, it has been organized and curated by CGU MFA students for the last 5 years. This exhibition highlights contemporary fine art by current and recent graduate students within Southern California.

Guest Juror

Dion Johnson is the 2022 guest juror, an American artist based in Los Angeles, California. His paintings combine and explore dynamic opposites: expansiveness and compression, surface and depth, and darkness and light. Gradient color fields are juxtaposed to and interwoven with planes of precise hardedge abstraction.

Born in 1975 in Bellaire, OH, Johnson attended Yale Norfolk Summer School of Music and Art, received his BFA from The Ohio State University and MFA from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA. Johnson’s work has been reviewed and featured in articles in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, ART News, Art Forum, and others. His work is in public collections such as The Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, OH, The Capital Group Companies, Los Angeles, CA, Creative Artists Agency, CA, Pizzuti Collection Columbus, OH, Progressive Corporation to name a few.

More about Dion Johnson and his work can be found on his website: http://www.dionjohnsonstudio.com
