The Northwest Watercolor Society is pleased to announce our 2022 82nd Annual International Open Exhibition. This is our largest event of the year, bringing together artists from the United States and Internationally. Open to all artists 18 years or older. Over $11,000 in cash and merchandise awards! 

To receive a reduced entry fee, you must be a member of NWWS before entering. To become an NWWS member, go to https://www.nwws.org/Much-More/Join-Renew. Member dues are $45/yr (June 1-May 31). 

Accepted Media: Open to all artists working in water-based media. This includes transparent and opaque watercolors, casein, egg tempera, gouache, and acrylic. Substrates must be any appropriate, archival, 2-dimensional, watermedia substrate, natural, or synthetic. Collage or other media may be used, but watermedia must constitute 80% or more of the work. 

All entries must be original works of art, painted only by you. Paintings produced in a class, workshop or submitted for an NWWS AZR critique session are not eligible for entry. Photo reference material must have been taken only by you, the entrant.

Member Fee: $30.00 for one entry; $40.00 for two entries; $50.00 for three entries 
Non-Member Fee: $40.00 for one entry; $50.00 for two entries; $60.00 for three entries

Image Requirements:

  1. Crop each image to the displayed image area only (no frame, no mat).
  2. Each image must be a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side.
  3. Each image must be a .jpg (or .jpeg). Maximum file size is 5 MB, no larger.

Commission: Entries must be for sale and priced with intent to sell. The artist receives 75% of the sales price. NWWS is due a 25% commission on accepted paintings sold before the exhibition opens, sold during the exhibition, or are purchased within 30 days of the close of the exhibition.

Artwork Pricing: Price your painting(s) WITHOUT framing costs included. Any frame style options and payment for framing costs are coordinated between the artist and buyer. Shipping/delivery charges should not be included in the sale price. Shipping/delivery charges and payment arrangements are coordinated between the artist and buyer.

Application Requirements

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Failure to meet ANY of conditions 1 through 9 will result in disqualification of your entry and will also result in ineligibility to enter future NWWS exhibitions for a minimum of two (2) years. NWWS reserves the right to refuse any painting that does not meet the criteria listed below.  

  1. Artists must be 18 years or older.
  2. All entries must be original works of art, painted only by you. Paintings produced in a class, workshop or submitted for an NWWS AZR critique session are not eligible for entry. Photo reference material must have been taken only by you, the entrant. Photo references NOT allowed include purchased images, permission-granted photos taken by others, stock photos, or copyrighted images either published or unpublished.
  3. Artists may not substitute another work for an accepted work.
  4. Artists notified of acceptance may not withhold their work for any reason.
  5. Entries must have been executed within the last two years and NOT ACCEPTED into any previous NWWS juried exhibition.
  6. Nude representations are not allowed.
  7. Entries must be watermedia paintings on any appropriate, archival, 2-dimensional, watermedia substrate, natural or synthetic. Watercolors, gouache, casein, egg tempera, and acrylics are allowed. Collage or other media may be used, but watermedia must constitute 80% or more of the work. Oils, water-soluble oils, and computer-generated art are not allowed.
  8. Original painting size must be a minimum of 7” in any dimension.
  9. Entries must be for sale and priced with intent to sell. Once entered, the price of your painting cannot be changed. The artist receives 75% of the sales price. NWWS is due a 25% commission on accepted paintings sold before the exhibition opens, sold during the exhibition, or are purchased within 30 days of the close of the exhibition. All paintings must be shown in the online gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
