The Biennial of Textiles by the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild is the longest, continuous juried show in the Southeast. This year's exhibit will focus on Transformation.

Exhibit Theme:  
In the period leading up to Transformation, we have experienced a global pandemic, isolation, and unexpected changes to how we work, live, and socialize. This drastic shift has brought out a resilience, which has led us to find new approaches to creating works of art, including how we source materials, produce fiber arts, and innovate using techniques and skills.  What Transformation have you experienced and how is it manifested in your art work?

Exhibit Entries:
Fiber artists may submit two works for consideration with one entry fee.   Only two works from each artist will be accepted.  All works submitted must meet the following criteria:

• Were completed within two years of the submission date (works completed since November 2020).
• 100% original, executed by the entrant, and not executed under supervision or from a kit.

No refunds for entry fees will be provided unless CHG cancels the shows.

Each entry will include:

• A Title and Narrative
• Techniques and materials used
• Dimensions and weight
• Insurance value
• Sales Price or NFS
• Return label and instructions

Items must be ready for hanging or display, and when necessary, directions for installation must be provided.  Pertinent packing and display instructions and special equipment required to install the art work properly must be included.

Images:
Each artist may submit a maximum of two images per piece for a total of four images.  If only one piece is entered and four images are submitted, only the first two images will be considered.

Entry Sizes:
All pieces submitted must be less than 60" in any direction when displayed and weigh less than 80 pounds.

Jurying:
Jurying will be based on aesthetics, craftsmanship, and suitability of techniques and materials.  If functional, the piece will also be evaluated on the appropriateness to the purpose.  The Juror, Hudgens Center for Art & Learning, and the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild reserve the right to disqualify any work from the exhibit that is unacceptable or differs substantially from the entry images.

Juror: 
Tommye McClure Scanlin, Professor Emerita, University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, has been weaving for over forty years and has explored many different techniques for creating images with woven structures. In 1988 she left most other weaving methods behind as she began her journey in tapestry weaving. Her tapestries have been exhibited nationally and internationally since 1990.  Scanlin is a Fellow of the Hambidge Center for the Creative Arts and of the Lillian E. Smith Center.  She is the author of two books, The Nature of Things: Essays of a Tapestry Weaver and Tapestry Design Basics and Beyond: Planning and Weaving with Confidence.

Shipping:
Entries should be mailed to The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning address with Attn: Kate Driscoll.  Costs of handling, packing, and transportation for the borrowing and return of loans will be borne by the artist.

Artist may also deliver artwork to The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning during business hours:
Tuesday - Friday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturdays: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Pieces delivered in person require an in-person pickup by July 22, 2023. 

For pieces returned via shipping from the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning, any pertinent packing details must be provided with the piece. Return of items deadline is August 31, 2023.

Insurance:
Unless the Lender expressly elects to maintain his own insurance coverage, The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning will insure invited loans wall-to-wall under its fine arts policy against all risks of physical loss or damage from any external cause on location during the period of the loan.  The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning insures loans at the valuation specified by the Lender.  The Lender agrees that in the event of loss or damage, recovery, if any, shall be limited to such amount as may be paid by the insurer, hereby releasing The Hudgens Center for  Art & Learning, officers, trustees, agents and employees from liability for any and all claims arising out of such loss or damage.

The insurance coverage contains the usual exclusions of loss or damage due to such causes as wear and tear, gradual deterioration, moths, vermin, inherent vice, war, invasion, hostilities, insurrection, nuclear reaction or radiation, confiscation by order of any government or public authority, risk of contraband or illegal transportations and/or trade, and any impairing, restoration, or retouching authorized by the Lender. 

If the Lender elects to maintain his own insurance, the insuring company must furnish a certificate naming The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning as additionally insured or issue a waiver of subrogation against The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning the duration of the loan period.  Without the certificate, The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning is automatically held to be co-insured and subrogation waived for the duration of the loan.

Artists are responsible for insurance during shipping, both to and from the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning.  

Neither the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning or the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild are responsible for deterioration or damage during shipping.  Upon application, these terms are accepted by the artists.

Sales:
Pieces sold will provide a 30% commission of the sales price to the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning.  Pieces not for sale must be indicated as such.  No outside sales are permitted for the duration of the exhibit.

All sold objects must remain with the exhibition for the duration of the exhibition and will not be forwarded to the purchaser until the end of the show.  Payments to the artist for all sold pieces will be made at the close of the exhibition.  Shipment of all sold objects will be paid by the purchaser

People's Choice:   $150

Award checks will be mailed within 30 days of the opening reception.

Please Note:

Be advised that pieces will be displayed and exposed to daylight from windows along the glass Rowe Promenade.  The windows are not UV filtered.

Juror accepted pieces must remain hung for the entire duration of the exhibit.

Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild and the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning reserve the right to change the venue to online, if needed.

Application Requirements

Entries are to be submitted on line.

The following information is required for submission:

1. Name, address (and shipping address if different), telephone, e-mail
2. Two JPEG only images of each work --- one full view image and one detail image.
3. A brief artist statement (50 – 100 words, maximum)
