Call Description
The White River Valley Museum is seeking artists to participate in their third annual Festival of Trees exhibit. This exhibit features trees that are decorated or created around a theme. The last two themes were cultures and literature. The cultural tree exhibit was created by local ethnic heritage groups and the literature themed exhibit was created by librarians at King County Library System. This year the Museum has chosen the theme “dreamscapes” and is looking for local artist’s interpretations of that theme! Selected artists will receive a $300 stipend post-installation. A people’s choice voting will take place during the exhibit’s run and the artist with the most votes will receive an additional $500 award.
Artists will select to either decorate a 7ft green artificial trees provided by the Museum OR create their own tree independently to install at the Museum. Artist must be able to install or decorate their trees on November 11 or 12, 2022 and deinstall on January 3 or 4, 2023. The following rules apply to all trees, either artist created or decorated.
1,) Artists will have access to at least one outlet or powerstrip to light their tree.
2.) Tree decorations can NOT contain: food, living plants or animals, high-voltage or vintage lights, anything combustible, battery-operated items, glow products, or glitter.
3.) If an artist opts to use the trees provided by the Museum, NO permanent alterations can be made to tree. (examples: paint or cutting branches)
4.) No political or religious themes.
Application Requirements
- Resume (or description of the group if not an individual)
- A short proposal and sketch including relevance to the theme “dreamscapes”, intention to use a museum provided tree or create their own, materials that will be used, and details of installation.
Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is open to WA state artists, collectives, groups, or art-based student organizations.
