The Great Cow Harbor Day Weekend in Northport, NY includes one of the most prestigious 10K runs in the country, as well as a 2K fun run followed by a village-wide festival that includes a parade, vendors and general celebration of our historic downtown, which was once named “Cow Harbor.”

pARTy ‘Til the Cows Come Home is a juried exhibition celebrating and complementing this Great Cow Harbor Day Weekend. Artworks on the theme of cows, and other farm life, as well as works honoring the Great Cow Harbor races, festival and the Village of Northport itself will be featured.

Artists from throughout the United States are invited to apply. The Firefly Artists takes no responsibility for shipping, and strongly prefers hand delivery and pickup of works. If you do choose to ship, a paid return shipping label must be included. Works may be accepted on a rolling basis starting August 20th, with the final notices of acceptance released on August 29.

All original media is acceptable, such as drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, collage, fabric work, glasswork, jewelry and digital media. The exhibition will hang September 4 - September 25, 2022.

Exhibition entries must be original artwork, no reproductions (with the exception of photography). All jewelry must be framed. While framing is not required for 2D works, canvases must be wired for hanging. Works on paper may be matted and will be hung “Clothespin Style.” Artists submit unframed works at their own risk and understand that they are responsible for insuring their own works.

All art submitted for exhibition must be for sale. The gallery will take a 35% commission on sold pieces. The sale price provided during submission of the work for exhibition may not be subsequently changed.

Application Requirements

Entries must be original artworks (no artwork created in a workshop or class under instruction of a teacher), no reproductions (with the exception of photography). Maximum size of pieces (including framing) is 30” x 40”.

All art must be for sale. The gallery takes a 35% commission.

Artists are responsible for insuring their own works. The sale price provided during the application process may not be subsequently changed.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility is open to 2D and 3D artwork on the theme of cows, farm life and The Great Cow Harbor Day Race and Weekend, and the Village of Northport, NY. All original media is acceptable, such as drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, collage, fabric work, glasswork, jewelry and digital media. 

PRESENTATION

While framing is not required for 2D works, canvases must be wired for hanging. Works on paper may be matted and will be hung “Clothespin Style” at the artists own risk. Framed pieces 16” x 20” and larger must have plexiglass instead of glass. Accepted Jewelry pieces must be framed. Each submitted piece of work shall include (1) Artist Name (2) Name of Work, (3) medium/description of materials used.

SUBMISSION

Each artist may submit one entry for consideration for $35. Artists can submit up to three additional pieces for $5 fee each. Up to two pieces of artwork from each selected artist will be chosen to be part of the exhibition. Please indicate whether the work is framed or unframed.

DROP OFF/PICK UP

The Firefly Artists takes no responsibility for shipping, and strongly prefers hand delivery and pickup of works at The Firefly Artists, 162 Main St., Northport NY. If you do choose to ship, a prepaid return shipping label must be included. Each selected work shall be delivered with (1) Artist Name (2) Name of Work, (3) medium/description of the materials used.

In Person Drop off Dates – August 31, 5:00pm – 8pm, September 1, 12pm – 3:00pm

Pick up Dates – September 28, 2022 - 5:00pm-8:00pm, September 29, 2022 – 3:00pm - 5:00pm 

A storage fee of $5 per day will be accrued for pieces of art left beyond September 29, 2022 until the art is picked up. Special arrangements must be made for any pickup that must occur after September 30, 2022. After 30 days of the show’s ending, The Firefly Artists reserves the right to place objects in storage at the Lender/Artist’s risk and expense. 

INSURANCE

Artists shall provide insurance coverage for their own works while at The Firefly Artists Gallery.

PUBLICITY

The Firefly Artists assumes the cost of publicity and shall have the right to photograph accepted works and to create videos including accepted works for such purposes. Such publicity, including selection of media and photographs, will be made at the discretion of the managing partners of The Firefly Artists. Publicity may include: mailing, emails, social media and website postings, and distribution of show announcements, press releases, gallery interpretive displays or other didactic material associated with the exhibition, as well as advertisements in newspapers and other publications if any are warranted.

PHOTO IMAGERY & STATEMENT

The Artist grants permission to use submitted images and statement as well as any images of your work created by The Firefly Artists for publication and promotional purposes. The Firefly Artists shall have the right to publish any such photographs and statements furnished by the artist with no payment to the artist or the photographer who produced the image. Artists must secure publication permission from the photographer if copyrighted; and provide the same to The Firefly Artists.
