Saratoga Clay Art Center’s national juried exhibition, FIRED/ON, curated by Vermont potter and artist Jessica Putnam-Phillips, seeks functional or vessel oriented ceramic works that explore the myriad of expressions that come from the use of decals and image transfers – basically all that is FIRED/ON.

Jessica Putnam-Phillips states, "Surface decoration enriches the message of our work, adding layers of meaning and visual interest. This exhibition will focus on the use of decals and/or image transfers on their own or combined with other surface decoration techniques. Underglaze decals, monoprint or screen-print transfers, laser (iron oxide) decals, overglaze decals, commercial decals or any other type of decal or image transfer add depth and richness to our work. From these techniques emerge a wide range of ceramic styles, from complex narratives to evocative minimalist expressions, and everything in-between. This exhibition seeks submissions that utilize and celebrate the possibilities of these varied surface techniques and all things fired onto the ceramic surface.  All work must be functional or vessel orientated."

About the Juror:  Jessica Putnam-Phillips is a ceramic artist, USAF veteran, and educator. She received her MFA from the Art Institute of Boston and her BA from UNC-Wilmington. She was a resident artist at the Saratoga Clay Art Center and at AIR Vallauris, France. She is a past winner of the Zanesville Prize and was named a potter to watch by C-File. She has been a presenter at NCECA, ClayCon West and the Veterans Triennale and Art Summit.
