The University of Alaska Anchorage Hugh McPeck Gallery is proud to present the 37th Annual No Big Heads Exhibition, a national juried self-portrait competition of limited size.

Eligible Entries

The No Big Heads Self Portrait Exhibition is open to all artists. Works must be no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" in any direction, including framing and hanging materials. Artwork must arrive ready to be displayed. Gallery management reserves the right to disqualify any works that do not meet the criteria.

Entries must have been completed within the last three years and cannot have been entered into any previous juried exhibition with the Hugh McPeck Gallery.

Limit of two entries per person. Works accepted in all media forms. 

Awards

$1000 for Best of Show 

$1000 in other cash prizes

Submission deadline: September 12th, 2022 11:59PM MST (9:59PM AKST)

Entry Fees

Limit 2 entries per person. Fees are non-refundable. 

General public: $20 per entry

UAA students with current UAA identification: $5 per entry. If you are a student, please email the Gallery (hmpgallery@alaska.edu) with your student ID number to receive the Student Discount code.

Sales

UAA encourages sales of work and charges a 10% commission. If your work is not for sale, please clearly mark NFS on your application.

Important Dates

Monday, September 12th: Deadline to submit entries online using the CaFÉ application process. Application closes 11:59PM MST (9:59PM AKST)

Wednesday, September 14th: Notification of acceptance into the final round of jurying.

Wednesday, October 5th: Juror Lecture at UAA's Fine Arts Building, Room ART105 at 7:00PM. List of final acceptance posted after lecture.

Thursday, October 6th: Exhibition opens. Reception at 5:00 PM AKST. Notification to out-of-state entries of work accepted and/or awards at this time. 

Thursday, November 3rd: Exhibition closes.

Friday, November 4th: Artwork pickup.

Applicants are responsible for shipping their artwork to the Hugh McPeck Gallery. The Gallery will cover return shipping.
