River Oaks' small art spectacle returns for 2022. The 7th Annual 5x5x5 features a remarkably fascinating showing of miniature works from artists across the U.S., coinciding with the gift giving season. Guest Juror for the 2022 feature is Ashley Kenneth Chavis. River Oaks is inviting all visual artists to participate in this annual miniature feature . The 5x5x5 Show is a signature event for the Arts Center, allowing patrons to purchase unique, original works of art for holiday gift giving or as additions to their expanding collections.

Guest Juror - Ashley Kenneth Chavis

Ashley Chavis is originally from southeast Georgia. In 1995 he received an art portfolio scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to study architecture. After a year at SCAD he decided to transfer to Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah to take full advantage of the Hope Scholarship. During that time, Ashley fell in love with Fine Art and graduated from Armstrong with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Studio Art. He completed graduate school in 2005 at The University of Mississippi where he earned the Master of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Ceramics.

Since 2007, Ashley has been a full-time art instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College where he teaches foundation art courses in Drawing and Ceramics. Much of his creative energy is devoted to producing functional pottery with a simple aesthetic that synthesizes design, tactility, and function. In addition to clay, Ashley also experiments with mixed-media drawings; and in 2019, drawing was the focus of his residency and exhibition in Marnay sur Seine, France. His most recent clay accomplishments include entry into the 29th Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National Exhibition in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the SECAC 2021 Members Juried Exhibition in Lexington, Kentucky. Ashley’s work can also be found at Oxford Treehouse Gallery in Oxford, Mississippi. He is a member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC), Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI), and Sycamore Arts Council. Ashley lives in Oxford, Mississippi with his wife, Virginia (who is also an artist) and their two children.

5x5x5 Guidelines:

●  Image size should be no larger than 5x5 or 25 square inches.

●  Three dimensional work should stay with in the same size range 5”h x 5”w x 5”d - open

to all media.

●  Original works only. No prints.

●  Open to all media

●  When/if matting, the mat should be off-white or white in color. No limitations on frame or

mat size. 5x5x5 specification applies to work only, not framing or mat.

●  There are no color or material restrictions for framing. Framing should suite the piece

and be ready to hang.

●  Applicants are allowed to submit 1 - 3 (max) pieces.  One image per entry.  Please do not submit more than one image for a piece.  

●  ALL SPECS SHOULD BE FOLLOWED IN ORDER TO BE INCLUDED.

●  River Oaks receives a 30% commission on works sold.

●  ROSAC reserves the right to photograph exhibited work/utilize digital images for reproduction in both printed and electronic materials for publicity.

•The price of your artwork entered into the Cafe system for this call will be the price of your artwork in the exhibition and the online virtual show.  We cannot change the price of the piece if it is accepted into the Cup Show. All data is downloaded from CaFE to generate label information for the virtual & onsite shows.  Please make sure your title and price are listed accordingly. 

Shipping:

Artists are responsible for shipping/insurance costs to/from the Art Center. Please have accepted artwork delivered by 5 pm Friday, November 4. Shipments can arrive with return shipping label, however, If no return label is remitted, the art center will contact you in the event your entry not sell.  You will have two options: Forward a return shipping label via email or allow the to remain in River Oak’s Gallery Gift Shop following the featured exhibition. Gift shop inventory - 30% commission rate will still apply. Entries will be returned in the same wrapping in which they were received (no peanuts please).
