Showcase Gallery Program

For more than 10 years, Northwind Art has presented to the regional art-loving audience a gallery program that features artists showing for the course of a full year at Jeanette Best Gallery in Port Townsend, WA. The program is open to 2D and 3D artists in the North Olympic Peninsula area, working in any media.

We will select approximately twenty 2D and up to four 3D artists for the program. There will be several themed shows during the course of the year.

Artists will be chosen by a panel of three jurors. Two jurors will be Northwind Art gallery staff/curators; along with one outside consulting juror.

Jurors will vote independently on art submitted, and will be judging the quality and professionalism of the work submitted. Jurors will be looking for a cohesive body of work from each artist. Jurors will look for a variety of media, techniques, and styles.

The $30 entry fee goes towards administrative costs and juror fees.

Dates & Deadlines

September 1 - Call for Artists announced

September 15 - Artist entry period opens

October 13 - Entry period closes

October 14-31 - Jury review period

November 1 - Notification of short-list finalists to schedule in-person reviews of work

November 1 - Notification of non-selected applicants

November 7-10 - In-person reviews of finalists by appointment

November 11 - Final decision, notification of artists

November 18 - Selected artists provide images of 2-3 works, bios, and other info for marketing materials

December 15 - Artists submit inventory sheets and images of all work that will be in initial display

January 9-14 - Artists deliver work

February 2 - Showcase Gallery 2023 opens at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery

February 4 - Port Townsend First Saturday ArtWalk

December 30 - Showcase Gallery 2023 ends

If you are accepted, we will provide you with additional information about shows and events during the year; framing & wiring expectations; pricing of work; delivery of artwork; number of pieces for inventory; photos of your work; etc.

Our contract provides for a 60/40 commission split (60% of sale price to artist). There are no monthly fees. This is not a co-op program, and artists are not expected to work at the gallery. This is a traditional gallery model.

Please note: Showcase artists are free to have short-term shows at restaurants, offices, and similar venues, but they cannot have long-term representation at another gallery or retail outlet in Port Townsend.

There is a one-time $150 marketing fee that will be used to create artist information cards; promote and sell your works on our website; and create other promotional materials. Showcase artists are first-choice eligible for our Art in the Hospital program, and other Northwind Art outreach programs.

(Please note that inquiries/questions received about the program might not be answered until Oct. 4, due to Northwind staff vacations.) We cannot answer questions about the status of your submission until the jury review period is over (Nov. 1).
