Bunnell’s flagship Visual Arts Exhibit program has earned a national profile for over 30 years of innovation and excellence. A new exhibit opens the first Friday of every month with a public reception and artist talk. A community tradition, exhibits promote education and community engagement about Alaska’s artistic heritage and diversity. Solo exhibits nurture and promote Alaska’s mid-career artists and elevate artistic innovation, craftsmanship, and fiscal sustainability for the arts.

Exhibiting artists are selected by an advisory committee composed of Bunnell artists, staff, board and community members working with Bunnell’s Artistic Director. Artists are notified by December 31st each year.

Exhibits are open to Alaska artists in all media and formats including solo, group and interdisciplinary arts are welcome. There is a $25 application fee. (Needs-based waivers are available. Please email adele@bunnellarts.org to request a waiver of application fees).

Bunnell’s mission is to strengthen the physical, social and economic fabric of Alaska through the arts. Bunnell exhibits only Alaska artists. (Bunnell's Alaska AIR and other residency programs are open to Alaska, national and international artists.)

Bunnell seeks exhibitions that value innovation, excellence of craftsmanship, community engagement, relationship-building and fiscal sustainability, but not necessarily all of these qualities at once. Bunnell’s exhibition season is curated to emphasize innovation and community engagement in fall, winter and spring, with less emphasis on fiscal sustainability for most months, while fiscal sustainability is prioritized in summer. Work need not be for sale. However, exhibits with strong sales potential are often scheduled during the high tourism Alaska summer months to benefit both artist and the Arts Center.

The strongest exhibit applications show a clear and unified body of work and resonate with Bunnell's mission and values. The artist’s work and intentions are clearly represented and described. The exhibit proposal is clear and specific.
