Agreement between Bunnell Street Arts Center and Artist**
The following represents the Exhibition Agreement between Bunnell Street Arts Center (Bunnell) and [ _____ ] (Artist) for an exhibition at Bunnell during the month of [ _____ ] from [ _____ ] to [ _____ ].
A community tradition established by Bunnell Street Art Center in 1991, Bunnell’s flagship program opens the first Friday of every month with an opening reception and Artist Talk that are free and open to the public.
Artwork may be for sale or Not-for-Sale. If for sale, artwork is on consignment with Bunnell for the duration of its presence at Bunnell. Art is sold at a 60%(artist) - 40%(Bunnell) split. During this time Bunnell has exclusive right to sell the work listed above. If artwork is sold as a result of display in the gallery or promotion online, Bunnell may also command a 40% commission. Artist retains copyright of all artwork.
Bunnell's Exhibition Gallery is a multi-use space. Artwork may be moved for accessibility, due to activities such as receptions, performances and screenings. Artist and Bunnell will review any concerns and special considerations about the activity and planned Bunnell prior to installation.
The Artist agrees to:
Artwork installation and deinstallation
- Review Bunnell’s Exhibition FAQ/Artist Resources prior to designing their exhibition.
- Provide artwork ready to hang to Bunnell no later than noon of the day before the exhibition opens or as agreed upon with Bunnell staff.
- Insure artwork or waive insurance above Bunnell's insurance capacity (see below).
- Assist with installation unless otherwise arranged.
- Pick up artwork from Bunnell on the day after the exhibition closes unless otherwise arranged.
Publicity prior to Exhibition
- Provide introductory image for the exhibition, a 100-300 word bio, and a 100-300 word exhibit statement for publication on Bunnell’s website promptly upon signing of this contract emailed to asia@bunnellarts.org.
- Two months before the exhibition, provide two images suitable for print (at least 300 dpi, 4”x6") for exhibit postcard and/or Bunnell’s newsletter.
Artwork image lists, label information, and individual images
- Provide image list and artwork label information (title, dimensions, media and price) one week before the exhibit opens. Preferred format is a Google spreadsheet provided by Bunnell. Prices may be adjusted in consultation with Bunnell staff.
- Provide (or allow Bunnell to take) small jpeg images of each work one week before the exhibit opens. Preferred format is in a Google folder provided by Bunnell of images that are 72 dpi and approx. 600 pixels wide.
- If desired, provide additional information like year created and individual artwork descriptions
Artist talk and opening
- Be present for the First Friday opening of the exhibiting month from 5 to 7 pm unless otherwise arranged.
- Provide an Artist Talk at 6 pm at the opening unless otherwise arranged. Talks will be archived and shared publicly on Bunnell's website and social media platforms.
- In certain circumstances as arranged with Bunnell staff, the Artist Talk may be conducted virtually via platforms such as (but not limited to) Zoom, FBLive, YouTube etc.
- Allow Bunnell to take photos / video of Artist and artwork to be used for marketing, public relations, or fundraising purposes.
Publicity during and after Exhibition - It is in the interest of both Artist and Bunnell to promote the exhibit and potential sales. Artist is additionally encouraged to:
- Create two posts during the exhibition using their own social media accounts that tag Bunnell (@BunnellArts on FB, Instagram, or Twitter.)
- Maintain Bunnell's Artist Instagram profile and post 1x weekly during their exhibit at Bunnell. See Social media guide.
- Share Bunnell's website post (see Example Exhibit Post) with exhibition and artist information, image gallery and online store. (Bunnell will maintain webpost of the artist's exhibit after the physical installation closes as long as deemed feasible).
- Share Bunnell’s Online Store with people and organizations that might be interested in purchasing exhibit artwork.
Bunnell agrees to:
Exhibition installation and deinstallation
Assist Artist with installation and deinstallation of the exhibition. Provide Exhibition FAQ/Artist Resources Create and post labels, signage and artist information for the exhibition.
Provide an opening reception from 5 - 7 pm on "First Friday" and host the Artist talk at 6pm.
Publicity
- Provide publicity for the exhibition including Bunnell’s website, social media, e-newsletter, and postcard mailer.
- Provide and maintain an exhibit post on Bunnell's website before, during and after the exhibit as long as deemed feasible.
- Record and share the Artist Talk on Bunnell’s website and applicable social media platforms.
- Create a FB event and add exhibit opening to local community calendars. Artist may be added as a co-host of the FB event if desired.
Online Store
- Create and maintain an online gallery in Bunnell's online store for the duration of the exhibition with images and pricelists provided by the artist.
Sales, shipping and payment for Artist sales
- Maintain regular gallery hours hosted by knowledgeable staff or volunteers.
- Provide information, answer inquiries, and handle in-person & online sales of artwork.
- Pay the artist's 60% commission by the 15th of the month following the date of sale. (Bunnell retains a 40% commission on works sold).
- Provide shipping, pick-up or delivery of purchased artworks to collectors.
- Provide collector(s) name(s) (if known) by the 15th of the month following the sale. Bunnell will provide collector's released contact information at the end of the year unless requested to do so earlier for artist's records.
Insurance
- Carry insurance to cover basic damage, theft or loss, upon which Bunnell will reimburse the artist for the retail price less Bunnell's 40% commission. Please note: Bunnell cannot cover loss due to earthquake, floods, windstorms or other similar disasters. Artists are encouraged to insure artwork additionally themselves.
Stipend
- Provide a minimum $150 stipend for a solo exhibition ($100 per artist for an exhibition shared between 2-3 artists). Additional funds for travel or shipping may be available as Bunnell's fundraising permits.
