The Valdosta National 2023 Change of Weather presents the best in national art in an all-media competition. Hosted by the Valdosta State University (VSU) Dedo Maranville Fine Arts Gallery in Valdosta, Georgia, the 35th annual exhibition will explore climate change and its impact on humans, ecology, the environment, and our future. Keeping the theme as open and broad as possible, Change of Weather welcomes a breath of responses to the topic.

Awards: $1500.00 in prizes will be distributed by the jurors.

About the Jurors:

Dr. Jason Allard, PhD – Valdosta State University, Professor of Geography, Climatology. Dr. Allard teaches Weather & Climate, Global Climate Change, and Hazardous Environment.

“My research interests include climate change and variability, quantifying climate change, human impacts on the climate, socio-economic impacts of climate change, and land surface-atmosphere interactions.”

 

Polly Huff -Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, Tifton GA. Curator and Finance and Operations, Georgia Museum of Agriculture. “As a curator of a museum about agriculture, I am firsthand witness to the changes and impact climate and the environment has changed the landscape of our region. Through the arts, we can document and educate in unparalleled ways the importance of this global situation”

 

Entry Fee: Open to all artists over 18 living in the United States. All work must have been completed in the last 5 years. All work must be original (no giclée’s or reproductions). Work previously shown at the Dedo Maranvilee Gallery will not be considered. Valdosta State University faculty and staff are ineligible to apply to the Valdosta national 2022.

Images submitted must accurately represent the artwork or the artwork will not be exhibited. Artwork will be insured while in the gallery (deductible may apply). Artwork will not be insured while in transit. Artwork may be for sale, with no gallery sales commission. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the exhibition.

Presentation: All work must be professionally presented. 2-D work must be framed with plexi-glass and a hanging wire. No saw-tooth hangers or glass allowed. Paintings must be gallery wrapped (with 1.5” edges) without additional framing. Artwork that is complicated or difficult to install must be installed by the artist or accompanied by clear instructions. No size limitation.
