VISUAL ARTS - GENERAL INFORMATION
All visual art entered into the competition must have been made when the student was enrolled in an MCCCD credit course, during Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022, or Spring 2023. The winning entries will be displayed at the Paradise Valley Community College Art Gallery for the MCCCD Artists of Promise gala on March 21, 2023, with the exhibition running till April 7. For the exhibition, the 2-D (two-dimensional) work must be framed and wired. 3-D (three-dimensional) work must meet space and handling restrictions. No special hanging requirements can be considered due to exhibit area restrictions.

Visual Arts Entry deadline:  Monday, February 27, 2023.

  • Exhibition selection will be by digital file upload as a JPG or JPEG format.
  • File dimension: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side.
  • Maximum size of pieces for flat art should be no longer than 30" x 40" and weighing no more than 30 pounds.
  • Maximum size of 3-D artwork must fit on a pedestal that is 20" x 20" and weigh no more than 60 pounds.
  • Artists (if work is selected) are responsible to prepare their artwork for exhibition. Prior to exhibition, all exhibiting student artists will be provided a Liability Waiver Form and Talent Release Form that should be signed, witnessed, and submitted to MCLI.

Application Requirements

All work will be judged by the images that were submitted. Please submit high-quality images (72dpi at 2000 pixels on the longest edge). The 5 winners of the League of Innovation award will then have those images submitted to the national competition.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Visual Arts Competition in both 2D and 3D requires that students must be registered in an art class within Maricopa Community Colleges, and can only submit work done while in the MCCCD art class.
  • Students can submit up to 4 pieces each, but each must be uploaded separately due to the system requirements. There can be 2 views of each submitted piece of work.
  • All work will be judged by the images that were submitted. Please submit high-quality images (72dpi at 2000 pixels on the longest edge). The 5 winners of the League of Innovation award will then have those images submitted to the national competition.
  • The work can be completed during any of these semesters: Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022 or Spring 2023. Work done in prior years is not accepted.
  • Anyone who has previously represented the district in the League of Innovation National Competition is not eligible for that award again. However, they may enter the show and display their work in the Virtual Artist of Promise Gala.
  • All 5 League of Innovation winners will have their work included in a full-color anthology, produced by the League of Innovation. These pieces will then be judged a second time and will be eligible for awards at the national level.
  • Work in the Artists of Promise Gala is not for sale, but you can leave your contact information with the show coordinator.
