Art can be created with order or disorder; a plan or in chaos. Technology-based art can embrace or ignore process in new and intriguing methods. Sequence at Touchstone Gallery invites artists or artist teams to submit works that are created with, or influenced by, technology. 

Artists and artist teams are invited to submit film, video, video games, digital works, physical works created from digital processes, sound, light, and time based pieces, performance pieces, and more. This exhibition welcomes art created with, in part by, or inspired by any digital technology. 

Due to the varied nature of media expected, this exhibition will include a physical gallery show, a series of screenings and performances, and a virtual online exhibition. Applicants will be asked to share how technology impacts and influences the work they are submitting in a written statement.

Application Requirements

•  Each application may include entries for up to two (2) works. 

•  Applications with more than two works included will be disqualified.

•  Additional images and media may be close-ups, stills from videos and performance works, etc.. 

•  All submitted images should be high-resolution.

•  For video, sound, or other time based media work, please include a link to the video/audio/full file. If the total experience time is more than one minute, upload a 30 second video/audio clip to represent the work along with a still image. 

•  Applicants will be asked to share how technology impacts and influences the work they are submitting in a written statement. 

• Video and other time based media work may be played on monitors in the gallery space, projected for screenings/performances, or featured in the online exhibition. After selection by the jurors, Touchstone Gallery will work with selected artists to determine the best availability and fit.

Eligibility Criteria

• Artwork that is created using AI which fully relies on the uncredited creativity of and work product of others (using software such as Midjourney and DALL-E) will not be accepted. Any AI elements used in submitted works must be disclosed in the application. 

• Artwork must be original designs and concepts; fan art and reproductions/copies of existing artwork or copyrighted design will not be accepted. 

• Artwork must have been made within the last five years

• All artists must be at least 18 years old to apply.

•  Touchstone Gallery may use images of accepted works for media and publicity purposes.

• Physically installed artwork must be delivered/shipped ready to hang.

• All physically installed artwork must be for sale (unless agreed upon by the gallery). Touchstone takes a 40% commission on all artwork sold during the exhibition or if the gallery acts as the agent.

• Artists are responsible for the delivery of the work to the gallery. Accepted works must be received by Saturday, January 8, 2023. Works may be dropped-off or shipped to the gallery. Shipping (and a prepaid return shipping label) is the responsibility of the artist.
