This exhibition seeks raw, psychological, primal work in any medium.   It may include realism, abstraction or a hybrid of both.  It could be obvious or unclear, fanciful or serious, conceptual or an interpretation of personal events.  Does the work make sense? Doesn’t matter.  We are looking for authentic styles from primitive to modern hyper-realism. 

Open to USA artists, 18 years and older.  This is an inclusive competition.

Any written narratives accompanying the work will be read by the juror - some may be selected to post in the show. Please add an inventory list with your narration for each piece, if you intend to add a statement.  If not then skip it.

Juror: American Visual Artist HOLLY ROBERTS

HOLLY ROBERTS practice is in New Mexico but exhibits her work and conducts workshops around the nation.  Her work is in permanent collections of several museums in USA.  She has authored several books.  She uses collage and paint - often incorporating photos she has taken.  A full list of her accomplishments can be found here.  https://www.hollyrobertsstudio.com

Acceptance notification the week of January 19, 2023

Entry fee:  $40 first three entries and $10 for each piece after that.  You may submit up to 8 entries.

When: Opening RECEPTION, presentation of Awards and Prizes: 2/11/23 at 4p.m. to 6:00p.m.  The exhibition runs from Feb. 11 to March 18, 2023. 

Where: Escondido Arts Partnership Municipal Gallery, 262 East Grand Ave. Escondido, CA. 92025 (San Diego County).

AWARDS and PRIZES: Best in Show: $400.  1st Prize: $300. 2nd Prize: $200.  3rd Prize: $150.  3 Honorable Mentions 

 The event will follow all city, county, and state mandated COVID precautions.

Works being mailed need to be received between January 21, 2023 and February 3, 2023 to the address provided in the acceptance letter and NOT the Gallery address. This is VERY IMPORTANT.  Receiving drop-off date is February 7, 2023 11:30 am to 3:30pm.

Application Requirements

Submissions accepted through CAFE until 1/13/23 midnight MT.  Submission fee $40.  $10 per additional image up to 8.  

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY: This juried exhibition is open to all US artists over 18 years old.   Entries in any 2-d and 3-d works (all mediums accepted) including digital, mixed media, fiber and fine art photography; in all forms of representational and non-representational work are eligible.  HOWEVER, installation work will NOT be accepted.   Sculpture is OK.   Entries must not exceed 72 inches vertical or 60 inches horizontal and should weigh no more than 40 lbs.  All work must be hang ready with D-rings and wire.  Paintings must have clean edges, either painted or framed.  All framed paintings requiring glass must use plexiglass instead.   Mailed in work must be insured and properly packaged with return postage paid.

Sales:  Sales will be handled by the Escondido Municipal Gallery.  The Gallery will take a commission of 20 %.  You may enter work NFS at your discretion.
