THE EXHIBITION: As part of our ongoing commitment to promote the visual arts and enhance the quality of life for our community, the Arts Council Fayetteville Cumberland County and Ellington-White Contemporary Gallery (EWCG) invites artists of African descent to enter this Black Creativity Exhibition. This is an invitation to celebrate the essence of Black Joy; progress towards gender equality; and an outlook for the future of Black popular culture. A celebration of cultural heritage through visual expression.
 
The six-week gallery exhibition will have two parts: The physical gallery exhibition and then an on-line exhibition. All selected artworks will exhibit on-line. The exhibition juror will select certain works to be exhibited in the gallery.
 
ELIGIBILITY: Open to all artists of the African Diaspora. All work must be original and not previously
exhibited at Ellington-White Contemporary, Arts Council Fayetteville or in Cumberland County.
 
SPECIFICATIONS: Artists may submit a maximum of three original works of art that have been completed within the last three years and have not been exhibited before in Cumberland County. Size of work may not be smaller than 12” x 12” or larger than 48” x 72” including frame. All works must be properly framed, wired, and ready to hang. No saw tooth hangers. All works must be sturdy enough to withstand handling and exhibition works requiring extraordinary installation will be declined.

JURORS:  Shirley Woodson an American visual artist, educator, mentor, and art collector who is most known for her spectacular figurative paintings depicting African American history. Her work spans a career of 60 years and counting can be found in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Studio Museum in Harlem, among other institutions. Woodson was named the 2021 Kresge Eminent Artist. Artist Senghor Reid develops figurative paintings and films that explore the connections between culture, art, the social sciences and the conservation of our natural environment. He attended the internationally recognized Marathon program at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. Reid’s work has been shown nationally and internationally in galleries and museums and is in both private and public art collections.
 
ONLINE IMAGE SUBMISSIONS: Submissions accepted beginning November 12, 2022, via CaFE (Call for Entry). There is no additional fee to use the CaFE online application system. All entries must be uploaded using this online system. Please do not upload digital images that contain borders or text info that is not part of the original work. Entries must be received by Midnight, December 26, 2022 (Mountain Time)
 
ENTRY FEE: $35. Each artist may submit up to three images for a non-refundable fee of $35. The entry fee does not cover shipping expenses.  The artist is responsible for all shipping costs. Credit cards are accepted for payment via the CaFE online submission process.
 
AGREEMENT: Submission of an entry to the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to all the conditions set forth in this prospectus. The Arts Council and Ellington-White Contemporary Gallery reserves the right to reproduce accepted entries for publicity and promotional purposes. Accepted work that differs from the digital juried image may be excluded from the exhibition.
 
ACCEPTED WORKS: Accepted works designated for gallery display must arrive ready to install by January 21, 2023. Work received outside of this time frame may not be exhibited. The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County reserves the right to exclude any work that is not professionally presented. All works must remain on display for the entire exhibition.
 
SHIPPED WORKS: Ship to Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County, 301 Hay St, Fayetteville, NC 28301. All work must be packed in reusable containers. DO NOT use Styrofoam peanuts when packing artwork. Artwork should be shipped prepaid via UPS, USPS or FedEx, and must be accompanied with a prepaid return-shipping label. COD deliveries will not be accepted.
 
HAND DELIVERIES: Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County, 301 Hay St, Fayetteville, NC 28301 (please call to make an appointment at 910-323-1776.) At the end of the exhibition, hand delivered entries may be picked up March 4 - 7, 2023 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm or by appointment. Accepted work left for 30 days after the designated return dates will be disposed of at the discretion of the gallery.
