Layers-Material and Meaning

Online Exhibition March 3, 2023 – April 3, 2023

Layering is an integral part of longstanding artistic practices; it was used by Titian to build distinctive yet complex color schemes, and was part of the method of avant-garde artists from Pablo Picasso to Barbara Kruger, all of whose work would not be possible without revolutionary exploration of this approach. Site:Brooklyn is looking for works that continue to engage with the relationship between layering and artmaking, keeping in mind that layering is central to the history of art while remaining curious about its future potential. We are looking for artists that work across, and within, all mediums.

About the Juror:

Bridget Donlon is a contemporary art curator and arts administrator. Donlon is currently the Manager at the MTA Arts & Design, New York, NY. Donlon previously held positions at Galerie Lelong, Tate Modern, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, and Dieu Donné.

About the Gallery:

Site:Brooklyn Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting the current practice of contemporary artists. We are taking Site:Brooklyn online with a new series of interactive exhibitions. Our goal remains the same, to connect artists with an expert and diverse set of jurors through the open call format. Our new program focuses on online open call exhibitions, selected by a cast of new jurors, solo artist features, and spotlights.
