76th Annual Gilpin County Arts Association Juried Show

June 10th through August 19th 2023

Juried Exhibition Prospectus

 The Gilpin County Arts Association (GCAA) hosted its first juried show in 1947 and is the longest continuously running juried show in Colorado and the Midwest. We invite artists to be a part of this historic event in beautiful Central City, Colorado.

 Eligibility for the 2023 - 76th Annual Juried Art Show: Open to artists in all 50 states. 

Only original works of art completed by the artist within the last 3 years are eligible. Work previously shown in GCAA Galleries is not eligible. Work from kits, or work executed in a class or workshop will not be eligible. Paintings must be original, and if copied, copy your subject only from photographs taken by the artist.  All jewelry entries must be at least 75% handmade by the artist. 

 Artists are encouraged (but not required) to join Gilpin County Arts Association (GCAA). Benefits of membership include:

 •     Membership provides a $10.00 discount off of your entry fee for the juried show. A coupon code will be sent to members via email so you may receive this discount.

●    You have an opportunity to exhibit your work in the Members’ Gallery, which gives you additional exposure.             

●    Membership allows you to participate in the “Members’ Only” exhibition.

The dates for this Members’ Show will be announced through e-mail correspondence or through our website www.gilpinarts.org

  •           Membership provides a 10% discount on all items purchased in the gallery.

  •           Membership provides funds to support the K-12 art program for Gilpin County school students.

  •           Members receive email updates from GCAA with news about our events, artists, and exhibitions. 

Over $3000 in cash awards,

Including a $500 Best of Show.

Awards are for 2D, 3D/Mixed media and Photography.

Three first place awards in the amount of $400.00.

Three second place awards in the amount of $300.00.

Three third place awards in the amount of $200.00.

Three honorable mentions in the amount of $100.00.

 2D Presentation/Fiber Art:

All 2D work MUST be delivered ready to hang.

All wall art MUST have a secure wire hanging system installed correctly on the back of your piece.

Framing must meet gallery quality standards. NO damaged frames will be accepted. Gallery wrapped canvases are acceptable. Have your unframed canvas paintings painted along the outside edges of the canvas. The artist must give approval for the gallery to repair any work damaged during shipping at the artist’s expense. If your piece requires a special mount, one must be supplied with the artwork.

Any wall hung art entries can be no larger than:

28” x  38” in the longest dimension. This includes the frame, and should not exceed more than 10 pounds. Highly reflective and heavy glass is no longer permitted. Please use acrylic glass in the framing process. All pieces must be easily managed by the curator.

Fiber pieces must have a sleeve or provide a hanging system.

  Photography Presentation:

All Photography MUST be delivered ready to hang.

All photography MUST have a secure hanging system installed correctly on the back of your piece.

Framing must meet gallery quality standards; NO damaged frames will be accepted. Gallery wrapped canvases are acceptable, and aluminum and metal prints are also acceptable. The artist must give approval for the gallery to repair any work damaged during shipping at the artist’s expense. If your piece requires a special mount, one must be supplied with the artwork.

Any wall hung art entries can be no larger than:

28” x  38” in the longest dimension. This includes the frame and should not exceed more than 10 pounds. Highly reflective and heavy glass is no longer permitted. Please use acrylic glass in the framing process. All pieces must be easily managed by the curator.

 3D- Jewelry, Pottery, Sculpture Presentation:

Pedestals can be provided, but if your piece requires a special mount, one must be supplied with the artwork. All pieces must be easily managed by the curator.

 Multimedia Presentation:

 Submitting Entries for the 2023 - 76th Juried Show:

You must submit your entries online using CaFE at https://artist.callforentry.org

NOTE: The Gilpin County Arts Association no longer accepts entries that are mailed in.  All entries must be done through CaFE only. CaFE is an artist’s call for entry site. We suggest you familiarize yourself with their entry procedure prior to entering to make the process easier for you. Size all images correctly before entering. There is guidance with these steps on the CaFE site. There is a wonderful CaFE helpline to utilize by calling  (303) 629-1166

Helpful tip: Do not wait until the last minute to get acquainted with café.

                       Submitting Images: File Type: JPEG or JPG only.

●      File Dimensions : 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side.

●      File Size: Under 5 MB.

●      Color Profile: sRGB

Upon entering, the artist grants permission for any accepted images to be used for publicity purposes by G.C.A.A with credits to the artist.

Number of Entries:

Each 2D artist and photographer may submit up to three entries per entry fee.

This also includes multimedia work & fiber wall hangings.

3D artists may submit a collection of up to six pieces displayed within three images.

 Show Tags:

On the back of each 2D piece or bottom of each 3D piece clearly mark your name, title, and price. Please tag all jewelry properly prior to drop-off. Make sure all work is labeled and your inventory sheet is filled out prior to drop-off.

ID: # Example: (e.g., Tom Jones, “My Clever Title,” $300.00 JONT-01” and so on)

A legible email address and phone number are required on your inventory sheet, along with the art piece’s description and price. Please make sure your price on the inventory sheet and art piece matches the price that you submitted when entering your artwork on CaFE. When pricing your artwork at the time of submission, please remember to consider the cost of printing, framing, glass etc. in the case you are selected. Prices may not be changed after submission.

Shipping Work:

Shipped paintings via USPS should be addressed to: Gilpin County Arts Association, in care of Michele Roussel, PO Box 98, Central City, CO, 80427.

UPS or FedEx ship to: 117 Eureka Street, Central City, CO 80427.  Include a prepaid return shipping label.

Shipped work must arrive NO LATER than May 28th

If you will need to have your unsold artwork shipped back at the end of the show, please include a prepaid FedEx or UPS label with your shipment. Via postal service, make arrangements with the gallery to return these items. This can be paid for by phone.

Artists are encouraged to purchase shipping insurance. GCAA is not liable for any damage during shipping. The artist agrees to pay for any reframing due to damaged work during shipping.

 Sales:

All work must be for sale and remain on display for the duration of the show (unless sold), and will be insured while it hangs in the gallery for the entirety of the show. GCAA will take a 40% commission on all work sold, and artists will receive 60% of the set price. Keep this in mind when pricing your items.

 Liability:

The utmost care will be taken in the handling of all artwork. Artwork is insured while on display at the gallery.

Important dates for the GCAA 2023 Juried Show

Please mark your calendar!

Saturday, April 15, 2023 is the deadline for entries on CaFE.

During the days of April 17th – April 26th. Our jurors will make their selections.

Thursday, April 27th: The Juror’s notifications are emailed to the accepted artists via CaFE.

Sunday May 28th is the deadline for all of the artwork deliveries of the accepted work to Washington Hall Gallery, 117 Eureka Street, Central City, CO. No exceptions.

Starting May 1st, the times for in person deliveries are between 12pm and 4pm, Monday through Sunday, the last day for drop-off being May 28th.                                                                             

Saturday, June 10th is the opening reception and awards presentation. The event runs from 5pm to 8pm.

The 76th Juried Show will run from Saturday, June 10th through Saturday, August 19th

Juried Show artwork pickup will be between 11am and 4pm, August 19th through August 25th.

Any artwork left at the gallery after the designated pick-up dates will be deemed abandoned, and will become property of the Gilpin Arts Association. Making an appointment prior to drop off and prior to pick up is appreciated.

The gallery’s winter hours are: Thursday through Sunday, 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Full time staffing starts on May 1st from 10:00am to 6:00pm, 7 days a week.
