This public art exhibit showcases sculptures along Rim Road in El Paso, Texas. Rim Road is adjacent to Scenic Drive. A historic road that runs along the Franklin Mountains and overlooks the city of El Paso.
The works selected for this public art exhibition will be on loan for a period of 32 days and will be available for sale during that time (if the artist chooses to). Each selected artist will receive a $500 stipend per piece. There will also be a $500 “Best of Show” award.
Artists are required to deliver their artwork in person to El Paso, Texas. The exhibit runs from September 30th through October 31st with a private opening for homeowners on Saturday September 30th and a public opening for families on October 1st.
Artwork Location
The artwork will be exhibited in front of residences along Rim Road and placement will be decided by the exhibit curators. If artists have preferences, they should be stated in the application materials. The artwork is insured by the El Paso Community Foundation for the duration of the exhibition, but not insured for any damage incurred during installation and/or deinstallation. We will provide signage to identify the artwork and the art will be featured in other communication pieces.
Design Parameters
Sculptures may be in any media but must be durable, suitable for outdoors, and able to withstand the elements as well as interaction with pedestrians and the general public. Accommodations may need to be made for anchoring sculptures at risk of falling (without destroying lawns).
Works may be functional or non-functional. Existing sculptures as well as proposals for work to be created are accepted. Proposals can be submitted as a sketch/illustration along with examples of other work that demonstrates artistry, proficiency, and finish quality.
Stipend
Selected artists will be awarded a $500 stipend per piece. The artist is responsible for transportation, installation, and de-installation of the artwork. No additional funding will be provided for transport or installation.
There will also be a “Best of Show” vote held online throughout the duration of the exhibition. The winning sculptor will receive an additional $500.
Purchases
The sculpture can be available for purchase. Please provide the value of the artwork and keep in mind that a 10% commission will be deducted from the sale. This commission goes directly to the El Paso Community Foundation in support of the Parkeralemán Fund which helps underwrite future exhibits and artists stipends.
A walking tour for homeowners will be hosted September 30th and the public opening will be held October 1st. Artists are requested to attend the October 1st tour which is a great opportunity to introduce yourselves to potential collectors and sell your artwork.
