Juror: Amanda Lebel
Amanda Lebel lives in a log cabin in Ashford Connecticut with her husband, twins, and rescue dog. Lebel is a Professor of Art at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Amanda works in drawing, painting, and printmaking. Her most recent prints are done in the technique of pochoir. She cuts intricate stencils and layers of gouache and watercolor to create vivid images. Lebel is influenced by historical wallpapers and textiles in the use of color, shape, and repetition. As a nature lover, her work is about the plants and insects that are around her. She is specifically interested in native and invasive species and how they interact. Lebel uses the repetition of printmaking and pattern to show native species decline and the insurgence of invasive species. She has received a number of grants and fellowships, including a collaborative print and book project with el Taller de Experimental in Havana, Cuba, and a visiting artist printmaking workshop at the University of Hartford. Her work has been included in several print biennials, museum shows, and printmaking exhibits throughout the country.
