An open art competition: Embodying Masonic Values Sponsored by the Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania Criteria: All artwork entries must display a visual interpretation of some aspect of Freemasonry in Pennsylvania, whether it be philospohical, historical, scientific, social, fraternal, charaitable, architectural, etc. Selected artwork will be exhibited in the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia. Constructed in 1873, the Masonic Temple has become one of the great "wonders" of the Masonic world. Adorned with some of the finest artifacts of Freemasonry and magnificent lodge rooms based on themes of the ancient architectural world. The Masonic Temple connects us with our past by outwardly displaying our Masonic traditions and values. Located within the Masonic Temple is the Masonic Library & Museum of Pennsylvania, which houses thousands of texts and artifacts relating to the history of the fraternity in the Commonwealth and the founding of our great nation. Maximum size for all entries is 48 inches by 60 inches.
Application Requirements
Submission of at least one and no more than three entries.
This Call For Entry Agreement ("Agreement"), dated_______________, is between______________________________________("Artist") and The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania and the R. W. Grand Lodge F. & A. M. of Pennsylvania (together, the "Hosts"). By responding to this call to display its work in "An Open Art Competition: Embodying Masonic Values " (the "Grand Exhibition"), Artist agrees to all decisions, rules and conditions of the Grand Exhibition and further agrees not to hold Hosts liable and releases all claims it may have against Hosts resulting from Artist's entry and submission of artwork to the Grand Exhibition. Artist is [the sole author of][a joint author of] a work of visual art entitled ___________ ________________________ (the "Work"), that Artist wishes to submit for[consideration and display][consideration, display, and sale] (the "Uses") in the Grand Exhibition. Artist understands and acknowledges that it holds certain statutory rights in the Work as described in 17 U.S.C. 106A (a) and seeks to waive its rights in the Work in any and all applications in which either the attribution right or the integrity right may be implicated. Accordingly, Artist knowingly executes this waiver and with respect to the Work and for the Uses, Artist hereby expressly and forever waives any and all rights arising under 17 U. S. C. 106A, and any rights arising under U.S. federal or state law or under the laws of any other country that conveys rights of the same nature as those conveyed under 17 U. S. C. 106A, or any other type of moral right or droit moral. Once deposited with Hosts, the Work may not be removed from the Grand Exhibition prior to the end of the Grand Exhibition. Artist agrees that the Work is Artist's original and handcrafted work. Artist is responsible for the delivery, pickup, and insurance of the Work. Artist is encouraged to purchase insurance for the Work. Drop-off and pickup of all artwork submitted to the Grand Exhibition can be done in person by Artist-or by Artist's designated representative-on the assigned date and arranged time. Drop-off: September 19th-23rd and September 26th-30th, 2023. Pick-up: November 7th-11th, 2023. Alternately, entries may be sent by UPS (preferred), or by mail. Artist understands and grants permission for photographs, video and other recordings of Artist's artwork be made by Hosts, their agents, assigns, and employees, and further agrees that the same may be used for promotional advertising, archiving, and/or educational purposes by Hosts without remuneration to Artist. If the Work includes an image or likeness of any person, Artist certifies that a model release for such people has been obtained. If Artist chooses to participate in the Grand Exhibition's auction, the Work may be auctioned off at the Exhibition Gala, with 80 percent of the auction value going to Artist and 20 percent to The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania. Artist may set a reserve price, as well as a direct purchase price for the original Work to be revealed after the auction.
