GENERAL RULES

  • In keeping with the theme of “Seeing Our Northwoods,” all photos must have been taken within 50 miles of Eagle River, WI.
  • The photo contest will consist of three divisions: professional, amateur and youth (14 years and under).
  • Entrants under age 18 must have their parents set up their CaFÉ account per callforentry.org rules.
  • Entry Fees: $20 per photo for Amateurs and Professionals. $10 for youth 14 and under.
  • Entrants will indicate the correct division as part of submitting their photos to the contest.
  • Number of submissions is limited to 5 photos total and may be submitted in one or multiple categories.
  • Drone photographs are not permitted.
  • Watermarks on photos are prohibited.
  • Judges commissioned by the Warehouse Community Arts Center retain the right to remove entries that are in violation of contest rules, as well as offensive or unethical photos.

CATEGORIES AND PRIZES

Northwoods Wildlife – $100 first prize professional & amateur; $25 first prize youth. Any wildlife species found in Wisconsin, including all wild mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, etc. No captive animals.

Northwoods Naturescapes – $100 first prize professional & amateur; $25 first prize youth. Showcase the beauty of Wisconsin’s Northwoods natural landscapes such as lakes, rivers, sunsets, sunrises, forests, etc. People are permitted in these photos but should not be the primary focal point of the photo.

Northwoods Plants and Insects – $100 first prize professional & amateur; $25 first prize youth. Close up shots involving plants and/or insects found in Wisconsin.

Northwoods Recreation – $100 first prize professional & amateur; $25 first prize youth. Photos showing people enjoying recreational activities in the Northwoods.

Iconic Northwoods– $100 first prize professional & amateur; $25 first prize youth. Places, locations, people, architecture, or historical landmarks that invoke nostalgia for the Northwoods.

JUDGING AND DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS

  • Judges will review all photo entries and select contest finalists.
  • Criteria for judging will include creativity, visual and technical merit, and composition.
  • Those whose photos are finalists will be notified by email on June 1, 2023.
  • Photographers whose photos are finalists will need to submit an 8x10 print of their photo in an 11x14 mat.
  • Printed, matted photos for display are due to the Warehouse Community Arts Center by July 1, 2023.
  • These photos will be placed on display at The Warehouse Community Arts Center from July 14, 2023 – August 30, 2023 as part of The Warehouse annual summer program.
  • A public opening ceremony for the photo display will take place on July 15, 2023 at the Warehouse Community Arts Center from 6:30pm–9:00pm. See eagleriverart.com for additional information.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS

Category winners will be announced on August 11, 2023, during a public event at the Warehouse Community Arts Center. Food, music, and beverages will be available. Winners who are not present at this event will be contacted within two business days for prize pick up or delivery arrangement. All photos must be picked up by September 2, 2023.

“PEOPLE’S CHOICE” AWARD

All selected photos are eligible to win the “People’s Choice” award for a prize of $125. Voting will be by adult members (18 yrs+) of the public present during the opening ceremony on July 15, 2023 as well as those who visit the display through August 10, 2023. The “People’s Choice” award winner will be announced at the event on August 11, 2023. 

Application Requirements

PHOTO SUBMISSION PROCESS

  • Photo submissions are due by midnight on Monday, May 15, 2023.
  • Photo entries are submitted electronically at www.callforentry.org (aka CaFÉ).
  • Participants will first need to create a free CaFÉ account. (Note: Per CaFÉ Terms of Use, participants under 18 years of age will need to have a parent or legal guardian “register for the CaFÉ account and assist in the submission process on their behalf.”)
  • Basic Instructions for uploading photos to your profile can be found at www.callforentry.org/artist-help-cafe/uploading-media/
    • Photos must be in .jpg or .jpeg format, not exceed 5 MB, be 1200 pixels or greater on the longest side, and use a color profile of sRGB.
  • Detailed instructions for uploading a photo to your CaFÉ profile: note the following steps when filling out the form presented.
    • Choose Image from the drop down list.
    • Browse--Select a photo to upload.
    • Add a title—do not include your name.
    • Medium--Photograph.
    • Enter a zero into each of the height, width and depth fields—they do not apply.
    • Artwork for sale--for purposes of this contest, the answer is No.
    • Year completed—Enter year taken.
    • Primary Discipline—Photography
    • Art in Public Places—answer No.
    • Description—Enter the location where your photo was taken? (e.g., town, water body, park, etc.)
  • When submitting photos to the contest, choose which and how many photos (max 5) you wish to enter into the contest and submit all your chosen photos at the same time. You will not be able to add or delete any photos later.

PAYMENT PROCESS

  • There is a $20 entry fee per photo for amateurs and professionals and $10 for youth 14 years old and under.  Youth will need to select the full price box and check out, then a coupon code box will drop down.  Youth must enter code YouthFee10 to get get price reduced to $10 per photo.
  • Payment of the entry fee is made online through the CaFÉ website via credit card or PayPal.

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY

Entrants: Amateurs, professionals, and youth (age 14 and under) may enter the contest. 

Photos: Must have been taken within a 50-mile radius of Eagle River, Wisconsin. See the Northwoods Photo Club contest webpage for a map of the included area.

PHOTOGRAPHERS RELEASE

You retain the rights to your images. By submitting a photograph, you acknowledge that you are the sole owner of the photograph, and you permit the Warehouse Community Arts Center to use your photograph in the Center’s publications, website, press releases, social media, advertising, displays, educational materials, and other marketing and fundraisers. You also verify that the photograph you submit is your own, was taken within a 50-mile radius of Eagle River, WI, and has not been stolen or plagiarized. The Warehouse Community Arts Center retains the right to disqualify any entry deemed inappropriate, of insufficient quality, or outside the scope of the contest categories.
