AT NIGHT: A Photographic Exploration of Light

THE EXHIBITION: As part of our ongoing commitment to promote the visual arts and enhance the quality of life for our community, Ellington-White Contemporary Gallery (EWCG) invites you to submit entries for AT NIGHT: A Photographic Exploration of Light a night photography exhibition. Artists are asked to investigate the complexities of night imagery and light sources that play off an object, surface of interior and exterior spaces at night.

The exhibition will have two parts: The five-week physical gallery exhibition and an on-line exhibition. All selected artworks will exhibit on-line for eight weeks. The exhibition juror will select certain works to be exhibited in the gallery.

AWARDS: Cash Awards

SALES: 30% commission on all sales. All work will be available for purchase.

JUROR:  Shane Booth, award-winning professional artist and professor of Photography at Fayetteville State University. He has exhibited work in group and solo exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally. His work on identity has taken him all over the world where he works with populations at risk of HIV, most recently in Russia.  He is currently documenting his hometown of Hildreth Nebraska with his vintage 8x10 studio camera. His work is included in numerous public and private collections Internationally.

ONLINE IMAGE SUBMISSIONS: Submissions accepted beginning March 18, via CaFE (Call for Entry). There is no additional fee to use the CaFE online application system. All entries must be uploaded using this online system. Please do not upload digital images that contain borders or text info that is not part of the original work. Entries must be received by Midnight, April 18, 2023 (Eastern Standard Time)

ENTRY FEE: Each artist may submit up to three images for a non-refundable fee of $35. The entry fee does not cover shipping expenses.  The artist is responsible for all shipping costs. Credit cards are accepted for payment via the CaFE online submission process.

 ACCEPTED WORKS: Accepted works designated for gallery display must arrive ready to install by May 03, 2023. Work received outside of this time frame may not be exhibited. The Ellington-White Contemporary Gallery reserves the right to exclude any work that is not professionally presented. All works must remain on display for the entire exhibition.

SHIPPED and HAND DELIVERIES: Ellington-White Contemporary, 113 Gillespie St, Fayetteville, NC 28301 during regular business hours, Wednesday – Saturday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  April 26 - 29, 2023. At the end of the exhibition, hand delivered entries may be picked up June 14 - 17, 2022 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm or by appointment. Accepted work left for 30 days after the designated return dates will be disposed of at the discretion of the gallery. DO NOT use Styrofoam peanuts when packing artwork. Artwork should be shipped prepaid via UPS, USPS or FedEx, and must be accompanied with a prepaid return-shipping label. COD deliveries will not be accepted.

Application Requirements

SPECIFICATIONS: Artists may submit a maximum of three original works of art. Size of work may not be smaller than 8” x 10” or larger than 48” x 60” including frame. All works must be properly framed, wired and ready to hang. No saw tooth hangers. All works must be sturdy enough to withstand handling, exhibition works requiring extraordinary installation will be declined.

Eligibility Criteria

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all professional artists 18 years and older. All work must be original and not previously exhibited at Ellington-White Contemporary.
