Show Description:
"In sight" literally means "in one's field of vision." But what if it meant more, more than before one's eyes. Perhaps an ability to have a clear, deep and sometimes sudden understanding of a situation or place or experience. Tony Deifell wrote about photographs by blind teenagers called "seeingbeyondsight." Mary Cassatt, Honore Daumier, Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Georgia O'Keefe took up photography later in their careers, partly because of their failing eyesight. How do you convey "In Sight" with your photographs?
From the Juror Shana Lopes PhD, Assistant Curator of Photography San Francisco Museum of Modern Art:
"To me, a good photograph is something that is visually arresting, technically strong, and grounded in or motivated by a clear idea. A powerful photograph makes me think twice; I return to it again and again think about what the artist is trying to say. Originality and thoughtfulness of approach is especially important to me."
Each artist may submit up to 3 photographs for consideration into this juried show.
Photography is the only media accepted to be juried for this show.
Diptychs and Triptychs are considered 1 piece of work. Diptychs and Triptychs must be submitted as one image.
