Call Description

The San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center invites artists and photographers to take part in SCORE’s (Southern California Open Regional Exhibitions) virtual art exhibit reflecting the limitless possibilities of the human figure. From the realistic to the abstract, the human body has been a source of art since the beginning of time. Whether in movement or at rest, in color or black & white, the human form beckons artists’ desire to visualize who we are.

  • Best of Show $800 – 1st Place $400 – 2nd Place $300
  • Plus 4 Honorable Mentions

JUROR Adria Becker

My artistic journey began in my childhood bedroom on a chalk wall my parents had the insight to provide. I thank the wonderful art teachers who challenged me to explore and develop my talent. Trips to Tahiti, and living in California, with their light, colors, and flow, are reflected in my paintings and drawings.

I enjoy sharing this approach with my Figure Drawing and Oil Painting students, currently through Artist Co-op7 courses and privately. I formerly taught at the American Jewish University, and Everywoman’s Village in Los Angeles, California.

Additionally, I have had the pleasure of jurying and curating many gallery exhibits, and having my work collected and published internationally. I like to pay it forward by participating on the Art Panel of Artist Co-op7, and as a Director of the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center.

ELIGIBILITY
Human Form & Figure is open to all artists and photographers worldwide.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA AND CONTENT
Entries must be original and of the artist’s own execution. Do not submit works which violate copyright laws. Artwork created and completed under the direct supervision of an instructor is not eligible. Once artwork is submitted, it may not be substituted or withdrawn by the artist. All juried artwork must remain online until the end of the exhibit. Please do not enter art that has been shown at any previous SFVACC/SCORE exhibit. Work must have been created within the last three years. Digital images must accurately represent artwork presented for Human Form & Figure.

ARTWORK FORMAT, PRESENTATION & REQUIREMENTS
Artwork submissions are limited to six (6) original artworks per artist as JPGs in the following media: drawing, mixed media, collage, printmaking, fiber art, photography, painting, digital art and sculpture. All artwork images should be submitted unframed unless the artist feels that a particular style of mounting, matting or framing is crucial to proper artistic presentation. This should be stated in the art’s description.

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS)
All entries must be submitted as a high resolution (1-5MB), digital .JPEG or .JPG either cropped to remove background or on a black background without a mat. Photos of the artwork should not be taken through glass or Plexiglas. Image quality is critical: Poor photography and presentation may affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image (.JPG) must represent the submitted art.

Directions for uploading photos to CaFÉ are clearly described on their website.  If all else fails, e-mail carolyn@sfvacc.org with questions
