Our world is in a state of flux. With paradigm shifts in recent years, we’ve had to adapt to major changes, both individually and societally. Art serves as a form of personal expression and a means of engaging with current events as people try to navigate and make sense of their surroundings. Like a dance that accompanies a piece of music, visual art is always evolving and reflects one's life experiences and worldview.
In its purest form, movement in art refers to the path that a viewer's eyes follow through a piece. Artists use movement to guide the viewer's gaze toward focal points, using lines, edges, shapes, and colors within and beyond the artwork. Movement can push boundaries or create more defined ones. This Call for Entry seeks to explore the diverse forms of movement in art.

JUROR - HANNAH SUBOTNICK
Hannah Subotnick (b.1992, Providence, RI) was born in a blizzard during a lunar eclipse. She is a multidisciplinary artist working in film, animation, photography, dance, sound, textiles, and installation. She holds an MFA from Stanford University in Art Practice, a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Film/Animation/Video, and a BA from Brown University and Modern Culture and Media. She received professional training in ballet, modern dance, and folk dance.
Through her work, she explores the life in the inanimate, bodies described by their absence, and the tension between sexual intimacy and seclusion. Although her work crosses many disciplines, at its core is a love of the transformative potential of the lens and its ability to abstract, reveal, and transport. Direct physical experience is important to her in her making process.
Hannah has been an artist in residence at Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY (2017) and I-Park Foundation, East Haddam, CT (2017). She has been awarded grants from the Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University, Stanford University, and the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts. Her films have been screened internationally.
She is a Critic in the Film/Animation/Video department at the Rhode Island School of Design teaching Animation and Open Media. She has previously been an Instructor at the University of Rhode Island teaching Video/Multimedia and at Stanford University teaching Interdisciplinary Animation.
