AMoA BIENNIAL-600 will be an exhibition of artworks selected by a juror from works submitted by artists residing within a 600-mile radius of Amarillo, Texas.  The exhibition will be on view from October 14, 2023—December 31, 2023.

The 2023 AMoA BIENNIAL-600 is the tenth iteration of an ongoing series of juried biennial exhibitions exploring areas of artistic practice, material, and content.  The previous exhibition focuses included Drawing (’05), Clay (‘07), Glass (‘09), Figurative Painting (‘11), Printmaking (‘13), Sculpture (’15), Architecture (’17), Textile/Fiber ('19), and Justice-Equality-Race-Identity ('21).  This year, the AMoA staff and Board of Trustees are excited to offer the museum’s exhibition spaces to artists working across all materials and genres.

JUROR: Anna Walker

Anna Walker is currently the Executive Director of Lawndale Art & Performance Center. She has dedicated her professional life to art and artists. Prior to her work at Lawndale she was the Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, Craft, and Design at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) where she took an expansive view of craft to work across departments and acquire work by contemporary artists including Diedrick Brackens, Sonya Clark, Jennifer Ling Datchuk, Jeffery Gibson and Aaron McIntosh. Before joining the MFAH, Anna was the Curator at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC), a kunsthalle-style space where she oversaw up to 12 exhibitions a year. She holds a BA in Art from Otterbein University with a focus on ceramics and printmaking and an MA in Arts Administration from Indiana University.

ELIGIBLE WORKS

Artists working with any materials or genres are encouraged to apply. Artists whose work could be sited outdoors are encouraged to submit proposals, as are artists with installation-based practices (though the nature of the museum’s interior spaces does impose limits).  Artists whose work requires exceptionally challenging handling or installation may be required to assist with installation on-site.

The AMoA will publish a catalog/brochure to document the exhibition.  Four awards will be chosen by the juror: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place.  Images of these works will be included in the publication.  Each participating artist will receive two copies of the AMoA BIENNIAL-600 catalog/brochure.

The museum does not take a commission on works sold as a result of the exhibition. Interested buyers will be referred directly to the artist.
