Experience the beauty and artistic inspiration of the Rocky Mountain Front Range at East Side Art Institute's annual Plein Air Event. Over two unforgettable days, September 23-24, twenty artists from near and far will gather to paint on location, showcasing the breathtaking landscape and vibrant community of Boulder County.

Apply to be a participating Plein Air Artist and immerse yourself in the breathtaking natural beauty and artistic inspiration of East Side Art Institute's 14-acre campus. With its majestic cottonwood trees, vibrant flowers, mulberry bushes, and towering old pine trees, our serene campus provides the perfect backdrop for plein air painting. As 20 talented artists gather on our grounds, they will capture the essence of the landscape directly through plein air techniques, infusing their artwork with the spirit and energy of our remarkable surroundings.

Engage with the artists, discover their creative process, and seize the opportunity to add exceptional artwork to your collection. On September 24th, we will end the day with a Plein Air Exhibition and Awards event. Join us for this extraordinary event where art, community, and natural splendor converge in a celebration of creativity and connection.

Application Requirements

The East Side Art Institute Plein Air Event is a national call to all artists 18 and older. Entries must be submitted electronically through the CAFE website, along with a non-refundable application fee of $35. Required application information includes 3-5 artwork images and an artist bio and statement that will be later shared with festival attendees.

Eligibility Criteria

Each artist must submit 1-3 images of artwork examples in JPEG format, color space preferred format with a resolution of 300 DPI (max 4000 pixels on the longest side). Submitted artwork images must be representative of the type, style, and medium of artwork the artist plans to create during the event itself.

Applicants may only submit images of artwork that has been created entirely of their own skill with no assistance.
