The City of Frisco, TX seeks original, 2-dimensional artworks to be printed on pole banners in the Rail District in downtown Frisco between 3rd and 5th Streets. Artists will have the opportunity to display art to a large audience and the public will benefit from a walkable art experience that beautifies the neighborhood.
Up to 20 artworks will be selected. Artists will receive a $150 fee per selected artwork. Please see the "View Site Details" link above for a pole banner photo and pole banner design example.
Thursday, August 17, 2023: The deadline for accepting submissions to Artscape.
Artscape is scheduled for September 29, 2023 through February 25, 2024.
ELIGIBILITY and SUBMISSION
- All artworks must be original and not infringe on the copyrighted content of any other party.
- Artists may submit up to three (3) images of original 2-dimensional artwork for consideration. Not all submitted artwork may be chosen for the exhibition.
- All submitted artworks must fit within the format of the attached example (artwork will print at 20 x 24 inches).
- Art displayed in Artscape shall be appropriate to a public setting and for viewing by public officials, City employees and citizens, including children, visiting and transacting business in the Rail District.
- Submissions will be accepted only through www.callforentry.org.
IMAGE FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
By Thursday, August 17 at www.callforentry.org: Artists must submit images to the following specs:
- File Type: JPEG or JPG only.
- File Dimensions: 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest sides.
- File Size: Under 5 MB.
- Color Profile: sRGB
Please note that these specs are for Call for Entry submission only. If chosen for the exhibition you must submit image files according to the specs listed below.
Include the following in your application:
- Artist name (no more than 21 characters including spaces)
- Title of artwork (no more than 21 characters including spaces)
- Date of completion (will not be included on banner)
- Medium/Media (will not be included on banner)
- Description that would help the Artwork Selection Committee and City staff understand your motivation, themes and/or process (will not be included on banner)
By Tuesday, September 12 to sross@friscotexas.gov: Artists with artwork selected for the exhibition must submit according to the following press-ready specs
- File Type: PDF, Adobe Illustrator .ai file, or .eps file. If the file is too large to email, the artist must provide a secure cloud service download link acceptable to City staff.
- Resolution/Dimensions: The submitted file must print at 300-dpi at 20 x 24 inches.
- Color Profile: CMYK full bleed.
Selected artworks that are not delivered to these specs will be disqualified. High resolution scanning or photography of artworks are the sole responsibility of the artist.
The City of Frisco reserves the right to crop and/or enhance images submitted images for optimal display. All pole banner design will be by City staff.
SELECTION CRITERIA
All artwork submissions to the City of Frisco’s Artscape exhibition will be reviewed by the Artwork Selection Committee and City of Frisco staff. All artists will receive written notice of acceptance or rejection of their submission.
Selection criteria includes:
- Does the artwork comply with the Eligibility and Submission requirements listed above? Failure to follow any of those requirements will result in immediate disqualification from consideration.
- Appropriateness of content as determined by the Artwork Selection Committee and City staff.
- Uniqueness and originality
- Visual impact
- Demonstrated excellence of technique
- Does the artwork reflect the shared values of the City of Frisco?

Display of art as part of the Frisco Public Art Program is not intended to constitute a public forum; rather, it is intended to be an expressive activity of Frisco as a governmental entity and the City Council. Art selected for participation in the Frisco Public Art Programs shall reflect the shared values and views of the City Council.
By submitting artwork for consideration as part of the Exhibition, you agree that the Exhibition and display of selected artwork constitute government speech and that the City has final authority over all aspects of the manner and location of display of selected artwork.
EXHIBITION LOCATIONS and LIMITATIONS
Pole banner artwork location is at the sole discretion of City staff.
LOAN AGREEMENT
Selected artists will be required to sign a loan agreement for their artworks. All loan agreements must be signed and delivered to sross@friscotexas.gov by Tuesday, September 12. Artists under the age of 18 must have the loan agreement signed by a parent or guardian.
SCHEDULE (Subject to Change)
- Monday, August 7, 2023: The deadline for accepting questions for Artscape. All questions should be directed to sross@friscotexas.gov
- Thursday, August 17, 2023: The deadline for accepting submissions to Artscape.
- By Tuesday, August 29, 2023: Selection process and notification to artists.
- Tuesday, September 12: Artists submit high resolution files of their artworks to sross@friscotexas.gov.
- By Friday, September 29: Pole banners printed and installed.
- Sunday, February 25, 2024: Exhibition closes.
Application Requirements
All artists must provide an artwork description that will help the Public Art Board understand your motivation, themes and/or process.
