INTRODUCTION:
Floyd Center for the Arts, located in beautiful, rural Floyd VA, invites visual media artists within 150 miles of Floyd to submit artwork for exhibition in the New River Art Biennial 2023.   The Floyd Center for the Arts, a nonprofit community arts center, is a renovated dairy barn that promotes the area’s rich artistic movement, by providing artistic events, exhibitions and connections with the more heavily populated areas of Roanoke VA, Blacksburg VA and Greensboro NC.  This is the 17th New River Art Biennial exhibition.  This exhibit rotates every two years between this Floyd Center for the Arts, the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley (FACNRV) in Pulaski and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.  Top cash prize for this exhibition is $500, and other cash prizes will be awarded.  Artwork will be selected by Juror Chris Pollins.  This exhibit is open to all artists 18 years of age or older that live within 150 miles of Floyd.  Work must be original and executed within the past two years. Video, audio, and performing works of art are not accepted for this exhibition.  Exhibit dates are October 14 until November 29, 2023.  Opening Reception on Saturday, October 14, 2023.

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Chris Pollins is the Founding Executive Director for the Chestnut Creek School of the Arts in Galax, Virginia. Before founding Chestnut Creek, Chris was fundamental in founding the Programming Department at the Floyd Center for the Arts as the Founding Director of Educational Programming, where she established three fully functional studios, and year-round programming. 

Chris has instructed art at various schools, including Touchstone Center for Crafts, VCU, and Corcoran School of Art. She has exhibited her sculpture work in multiple institutions and was recently the Artist in Residence at Touchstone Center for Crafts. Chris earned a Bachelors of Fine Art in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University.

"I believe everyone has an inherent ability to create and it is through classes that individuals can explore the tools and techniques necessary to develop a skill and realize unknown talents through practice and perseverance. The gratification of this experience is limitless. As a sculptor, I experience the thrill of creation firsthand. As a teacher, I relish in my students’ exploration, experimentation and experience of creative learning. As an administrator, I am able to provide this experience. Art is a right not a privilege and brings a quality to life that I think nothing else can provide."

ABOUT THE CENTER:
Floyd Center for the Arts’ mission is to facilitate and showcase artistic endeavors and creativity; to provide education in the arts throughout our rural community and region.

ELIGIBILITY: 
Artists must live within 150 miles of the Floyd Center for the Arts.  Open to all artists 18 years of age or older.  Work must be original and executed within the past two years.
 
MEDIA:
All fine arts and fine craft media including painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, textiles, mixed media, photography, time-based/new media and installation are accepted. Handicrafts are not eligible.  Artist may submit up to three (3) artworks.
 
ENTRY FEE: 
Entry Fee is for up to three works and is non-refundable

SUBMISSION OF ARTWORK:
Visit www.callforentry.org to submit your images.  A total of THREE (3) works of art may be submitted for jurying per artist. Submitted digital images should represent the quality and nature of the work. Work that is considerably different than the submitted images may not be accepted.  Artists must submit an image showing the artwork in its entirety.  Artists may submit a secondary image showing a detailed section of the work.  Artists submitting 3D works may submit up to three (3) images per work of art. A total of up to nine (9) images may be submitted of the THREE (3) artworks submitted for consideration by the Juror.

Notifications sent no later than Tuesday, September 19, 2023
Shipped work must arrive between Monday, October 2 and Friday, October 6, 2023. All shipped work must contain a prepaid return shipping label.
In person drop off dates are Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7, 10am – 4pm
Opening Reception is Saturday, October 14, 2023
Pick up work Thursday, November 30, Friday, December 1, or Monday, December 4, 10am-4pm

Grand Prize: from the Nadine Allen Memorial Fund, $500
First Award of Excellence: from Floyd Center for the Arts, $200
Second Award of Excellence: from Blacksburg Regional Arts Association, $200
Third Award of Excellence: from Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley, $200
More prizes may be awarded.

Entries should arrive at Floyd Center between the dates of Monday, October 2 and Friday, October 6, 2023.  Work arriving late or damaged or not following the required format may not be included in the exhibition.  Floyd Center will NOT pay for return shipping.  Artist must provide return labels to
