The Aspen Art Museum Artist Fellowship provides a mentored professional development opportunity for six artists (from emerging to established) living and working in the extended Roaring Fork Valley and including the communities of Parachute, Rifle, Silt, New Castle, Glenwood Springs, Gypsum, Eagle, Edwards, Avon, Vail, Marble, Redstone, Carbondale, El Jebel, Basalt, Old Snowmass, Snowmass Village, and Aspen. 

The fellowship cohort meets monthly for opportunities such as and facilitated studio visits, conversations with visiting artists and curators, and interaction with AAM staff. Over the course of the program artist fellows develop a project and share their work with the community in a public program. The program runs from September 2023 to May 2024.

Objectives

  • Provide recognition, support, and professional development for artists interested in expanding their practice through exchange and mentorship.
  • Support and strengthen relationships within the local artistic community.
  • Create the opportunity for fellows to share their creative process and fellowship experience with a public program.

Description

  • Six artists are selected through a locally juried application review process.
  • Monthly meetings.
  • Opportunities include: facilitated studio visits, conversations with visiting artists and curators, and interaction with AAM staff.
  • Both emerging and established artists are encouraged to apply.
  • A project (either individual or collaborative) is developed through the course of the fellowship.
  • Fellows receive an honorarium to support their project.

Eligibility Criteria

 

  1. APPLICANTS MUST LIVE IN THE FOLLOWING COMMUNITIES: Parachute, Rifle, Silt, New Castle, Glenwood Springs, Gypsum, Eagle, Edwards, Avon, Vail, Marble, Redstone, Carbondale, El Jebel, Basalt, Old Snowmass, Snowmass Village, or Aspen.
  2.  Artists working in any medium and at any level of artistic practice are eligible.
  3. Applicants must be 18 years of age at the start of the program.
