Call Description

The International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA) encourages the submission of work for an online/virtual exhibition in conjunction with the 2024 IVLA conference “Illuminating Perspectives.” You’re invited to submit visual work that examines the realm of personal and collective meaning-making, agentive practice, and the transformation of sociopolitical realities. This work can enhance, expand, or explore perspectives in studio, professional, and educational spaces.

Two and three dimensional work, teaching and instructional materials, professional and research visualizations, and exploratory visual work are welcome.

Exhibition Category Descriptions (applicants must self-select)

1. Studio Practice visually based projects (2d, 3d)
2. Professional Practice projects related to client based or contractual work, non-education or instructional*
3. Teaching/Research Practice projects related to instructional and teaching activity, K-12/higher education, potentially including non-educational instructional projects for a specific field or industry, projects related to graduate, post-graduate, and doctorate studies.*
4. Exploratory Practice visually based projects that are exploratory, experimental, or cross disciplinary. 
   
   * Applicants can include collaborative and group based work as long as all members are listed in the submission

9. If submitting in the professional/teaching/research categories please include the following information as applicable:
   • Institution name and location
   • Publication name, date
   • Client name, location
   • Names, titles, locations of collaborators
   • If project was part of graduate, post-graduate, and doctorate studies please include the institutional name and program.

Image Files

• 2d work: 1 image
• 3d work: 4-6 images documenting the entire work as well as selected details
• Time based work: 4-6 images of screen captures or stills, 1 image of storyboard
• Image files should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format. Images should be 300 dpi and no greater than 1600 px on the longest side. File size should not exceed 3 mb.

File Naming

last name (underscore) first name, followed by the entry number as noted on the entry form (for example: Jones_Mike_1.jpg)

Eligibility Criteria

1. Work must have been created in the past 3 years
2. Video and/or audio files of time based work will not be considered. Screen captures, stills, or storyboards of time based work will be considered (4-6 images)
3. Use of AI tools must be disclosed and cited. Please include the following information if all or part of your submission is AI generated: description of the prompt, AI tool, version, and date created, site name. (eg: “interior empty warehouse space with natural light” prompt, DALL-E, version 2, OpenAI, 18 Mar. 2023, labs.openai.com/.)
