Description: 

Art Gym Gallery is inviting artists to submit work to the 6th Impressed national printmaking exhibit. Launched in 2016, Impressed celebrates a cross-section of both traditional and alternative printmaking methods being used in contemporary printmaking from artists of all professional levels.

This exhibition runs in conjunction with Denver’s Month of Printmaking (Mo’Print). Mo’Print is a celebration of the art of making original prints to inspire, educate and promote awareness through a variety of public events and exhibitions in Denver and the metropolitan region.

Previous Impressed juried exhibits held at Art Gym Gallery: Impressed (2016), Destructive Beauty (2017), Behind the Hedges (2018), Upside Down (2020), and Transcendent Glitch (2022)

Awards: 

Four cash prizes will be awarded, selected by the juror and the Art Gym Gallery Curator. 

1st Prize: $400 

2nd Prize: $200 

3rd Prize: $100 

4th Prize: $50

Jurors: 

Gregory Santos is the Printmaking Director at Art Gym Denver and former Chair of Mo'Print. He is an abstract artist and Master Printer specializing in lithography and screen printing. He completed the Printer Training Program at the Tamarind Institute for Lithography and holds a Master of Arts degree from New York University as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University. As a collaborative printer, he’s made editions for artists: Tony Ortega, Gigi Chen, Dinh Q. Lê, and Sanford Biggers. He’s also printed editions for Helen Frankenthaler, Cecily Brown, Jill Moser, Guillermo Kuitca, Robert Kushner, and Mickalene Thomas. Gregory is also the founder of the Mixed Grit project — A unique format, semi-collaborative stone lithograph print trade comprised of small curated groupings of select artists from across the nation.

Alanna Austin is a printmaker and multimedia artist from Boulder, Colorado. She graduated with her MFA at the University of Colorado Boulder in Printmaking and her BFA emphasizing in Printmaking from the University of Colorado. Austin is the founder of the Western Wilds Collective that acts as a conference for artists to come together on a digital platform once every other year to discuss work and innovative techniques. Alanna Austin is the current co-editor of the Mid America Print Council journal and currently acts as of the managers for membership and programming at Art Gym Denver. 

About Art Gym Gallery: 

The Art Gym Gallery provides a space for artists to explore new ideas and push their process in ways that are difficult in other spaces in Denver. Thought-provoking, innovative, or otherwise experimental exhibitions are at the heart of the gallery.

Application Requirements

• Artists may submit up to 3 images for consideration.
• Non-refundable $25 submission fee. Must be paid at time of submission via cafe.org.
• There are no size limitations on artworks that can be submitted. 
• Artist is only responsible for shipping costs of delivery to the gallery. 
• Art Gym Gallery will pay for return shipping costs of all unsold artwork. 
• Art must be original and not a reproduction. 
• All framed art must be securely wired across or have D-rings.
• All framed art must use plexi-glass. No glass.
• Art sent to Art Gym Denver un-framed or not ready to hang will be displayed with magnets. 
• Artists must be a resident of the United States and be 18+ years old. 
• Art Gym Denver will receive a 30% commission on all work sold. Artwork need not be for sale but it is encouraged.
• Accepted artwork may be refused last minute at Art Gym Denver’s discretion if unable to install or hang properly, or if art varies greatly from the submission image. 
• Art Gym Denver is not responsible for any artwork damaged, broken, or stolen while on exhibit, in storage, or in transit to and from the exhibition. 
• Art Gym recommends all artists carry insurance sufficient to cover the full replacement value of their artwork. 
• No in-person, slides, cd’s or emailed applications will be considered. All submissions must be made online via callforentry.org. 
• No late submissions will be considered. 
• Accepted artworks that do no reach Art Gym Gallery by March 11, 2024 will not be displayed as part of the exhibit.

Eligibility Criteria

All artworks must be original works of art. Submissions must utilize a form of traditional hand printed media as their primary technique but may include digital output elements within the greater work. Artwork submissions may include but are not limited to: monoprint, monotype, screen print, etching, engraving, drypoint, photopolymer, photogravure, collagraph, stone lithography, plate lithography, woodcut, linocut, steamroller, letterpress, and book-arts. Book-arts submissions must contain printed artworks within and cannot be blank journals or inkjet-based text blocks. Any oversized steamroller prints accepted will require installation instructions provided by the artist or will be hung with magnets. Printmaking based installations, mixed media, and video work will be considered if it includes the use of hand-pulled prints and is accompanied by detailed presentation/installation instructions and images within your application.  

Ineligible Artworks: 

Art composed solely of inkjet, laser prints, pigmented prints, risograph, photocopy, laser engraving will not be accepted. Giclée reproductions will also not be accepted. For questions regarding eligible artwork, please contact ilan@artgymdenver.com
