Fiber in 3D

Call for Entry, November 1 through November 30, 2023.

This juried exhibition will appear in the spring 2024 issue of Fiber Art Now to be released in early April 2024. Selected artwork will be eligible for the onsite exhibition at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston, Texas, January 27 through May 4, 2024.

 Artists are invited to enter TWO innovative three-dimensional artworks of original design that stretch the boundaries of fiber and textile techniques. The artwork must include a fiber component or textile technique.

Submit entries to CaFÉ Call for Entries. If you do not have a CaFÉ account, you will need one to enter. There is no charge to open a CaFÉ account. If you have questions about starting a CaFÉ account, contact CaFÉ, How to Apply for Artists | CaFÉ™ - CallForEntry.org.

A discounted entry fee is available to Fiber Art Now subscribers and the discount code will be emailed to subscribers prior to November 1. Artists may submit up to TWO individual works of art as full images and TWO detail images of the full artwork. Only one artwork per artist will be eligible for selection.

Notifications will be emailed on or before December 15. Artists who enter more than one artwork will receive two different notifications, one for the invited work, and another for the work(s) that were not invited. Juried selections will include only one artwork per artist. Prizes will be awarded for 1st $300, 2nd $250, and 3rd $200 selections.

Entries will not be accepted after midnight mountain standard time (MST) November 30. The CAFÉ Call for Entry will close at that time.

Note that CaFÉ does not let you go back into your application to make changes or corrections. Please review your entries before checking out. If you need to make changes or corrections after you have paid your entry fee, you will need to start a new application to enter the information for all entered artwork. 

The FULL IMAGES MUST SHOW THE EDGES OF THE ARTWORK WITHOUT ANY OTHER OBJECTS IN THE PHOTOGRAPH. THE BACKGROUND SHOULD BE A SMOOTH WALL OR PHOTO PAPER, NO TREES, BENCHES, FOLDED OR RUMPLED FABRIC. DETAIL IMAGES SHOULD SHOW A PORTION OF THE FULL IMAGE.

Entries must be File Type: JPEG or JPG only. 

File Dimensions: 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side.

File Size: Under 5 MB.

Color Profile: sRGB 

You will need to enter the information for each piece separately, starting with the title of the piece. List each piece separately in the same space required for artist statement, materials, techniques, photographer, etc., beginning with the title of the artwork. For example, if you are entering two separate works, for the Artist's Statement, you will have the TITLE of the first piece followed by the artist statement for that piece, then the TITLE of the second piece followed by its artist statement, all in one space.

The same format works for every space.

For materials, etc. you will list the TITLE of the first piece followed by the materials, then the TITLE of the second piece followed by its materials, all of that information is entered into the same space for materials.

List dimensions as Height x Width x Depth. There are no size restrictions for the print exhibition in Fiber Art Now. Any onsite exhibitions may have size restrictions. 

Artworks created within the last five years are preferred. 

Fiber in 3D will be juried by the Fiber Art Now creative team. We are fortunate that our Fiber Art Now creative team all have university degrees in the arts. These accomplished artists are the jurors for Fiber in 3D:

·        Lori Butanis: Fiber Art Now creative director, graphic artist, art director

·        Barbara Delaney: Fiber Art Now editor, writer, and former managing editor of Cloth Paper Scissors magazine.

·        Beth Smith: Fiber Art Now managing editor and exhibitions director, and Visions Art Museum: Contemporary Quilts + Textiles founding executive director emerita

·        Cami Smith: Fiber Art Now media manager and contributing editor.

Notification of INVITED or NOT INVITED will appear in your CaFÉ account after the jurying has been completed. You will receive a notification from CaFÉ with acceptance or regrets. Multiple submissions may receive two different email notifications. Email notifications will list each artwork as Invited or Not Invited. Please check SPAM for notifications if they do not appear in your email.

Application Requirements

Entry fee: $30 for up to two images and two detail images. Fiber Art Now subscribers: $20 with the discount code FAN2023. Use the discount code at check out. Entries close at midnight, November 30 Mountain Time Zone, USA. CaFE does not let you go back into your application to make changes or corrections. Review your entry before checking out.

Eligibility Criteria

International Fiber Art Now subscribers and non-subscribers are eligible to enter Fiber in 3D.   Non-English speakers will need to have their entry translated before applying through CaFE.
