To install a permanent artwork which marks the beginning of the Jean W. Wallace Wetlands Trailhead on the Hot Springs Creek Greenway Trail (HSCGT) and which specifically relates to the ecosystem of the Wetlands. Artwork would be installed in and/or around an 8-foot stacked stone conical fountain. The trailhead will add a quarter mile to the already 3.5 miles of the HSCGT which makes its way from downtown Hot Springs to Lake Hamilton. The wetlands are a flood plain of the Hot Springs Creek, which empties into the lake, creating a unique environment which is home to specific flora, fauna, and natural resources.

Jean W. Wallace retired from the Parks & Trails Department for the City of Hot Springs after 28 years of service. She was instrumental in helping create and maintain the extensive trailways in the City of Hot Springs, and served as the city’s liaison to the Hot Springs Arts Advisory Committee which is responsible for placing much of the public art in Hot Springs.

The artwork will be installed in the middle of a circular parking area which marks the trailhead, on TV Hill Road. Utility lines run beneath the site. In the middle of the circular parking area will be an 8-foot stacked stone conical fountain. The fountain enclosure area is 25-feet in diameter. Artwork installed in this enclosure area would allow for an in-the-round experience of the artwork.

This call is open to artists living in the Mid-America Region of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Artists and artist teams are encouraged to submit. Artists and artist teams who are familiar with the design, fabrication, and installation of permanent public art are encouraged to apply.

Artwork must be fabricated of durable materials suitable for permanent, outdoor display with the consideration that the public will have the ability to touch the work. Artwork which interacts harmoniously and is inspired by the Wetlands is preferred. Artwork cannot contain logos, tag lines or be in any way thematically linked to a commercial business, establishment, product or service. Artwork must fit within and around the enclosed fountain area.

The fountain is 8-feet high and conical shaped with a 25-foot in diameter enclosure. The enclosure is a low stone ledge suitable for seating. Landscaping and artwork will be installed within the enclosure surrounding the fountain.

$15,000 - $18,000 has been earmarked for this project. The funds cover the artist’s travel, design, fabrication, delivery, and installation. Please include a detailed budget which includes a required 10% contingency.
