Overview

This Call for Entry: Expression of Interest (EOI) is issued by Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd (“PCL”) on behalf of the Marketing department. PCL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and is responsible for marketing, sales, and distribution of vehicles and parts in Canada.

The EOI requirements are outlined in the Application Requirements below.  The schedule, contact information, EOI evaluation information and instructions for submitting are provided under in the Application Requirements below.

1.1 Artist Opportunity

PCL invites professional artists and/or art collectives/teams to respond to the EOI to create a permanent outdoor artwork at the Porsche Experience Centre (PEC) in the City of Pickering, Ontario.

A professional artist is an artist who:

⦁ has specialized training in the artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions)

⦁ is recognized as a professional by his or her peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition)

⦁ is committed to devoting more time to artistic activity, if possible financially

⦁ has a history of public presentation or publication

A Selection Committee composed of Porsche internal staff, project design team, City of Pickering staff members and Subject Matter Experts will be established for this two-stage competition.

1.2 Background Information

The PEC consists of a test track and a guest center. The facility will be situated as part of the Durham Live development in Pickering, Ontario. The PEC building is designed with an ambition to achieve LEED Gold and Zero Carbon Certification and will include Porsche vehicle displays, a café, retail store and simulator lab.

The center will host Porsche customers, enthusiasts, network staff and corporate partners. The PEC will be a bespoke facility, designed to host guests to a high standard. The PEC also includes meeting rooms, a Lifestyle Store as well as an administration office.  Approximately 20,000 visitors per year are anticipated.

The construction of the PEC provides a site for an artwork at the north east corner of site, serving as a “gateway” feature to the site, which is located at the north-west corner of Church & Bayly St in Pickering (please refer to attached site location).

Thematically, artists are asked to broadly consider Porsche’s motorsport heritage with a focus on sustainability and the PEC’s location (Pickering/Toronto/Ontario/Canada) and should appeal to our existing customers as well as our key target groups: Driven Youth, Driven Females and New Creative Leaders.

1.3 Budget

$300,000 CAD is the total amount available for all related expenses of this art project including, but not limited to: artist fees, all applicable taxes, detailed renderings, materials, technical consultations and approvals or other expertise as required, fabrication, installation, insurance, equipment, travel to meetings and to the site, artist presentation during unveiling ceremony, and an artist statement for completed work.

The selected artist will enter into a written agreement with the Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. following the approval of the acquisition of the art. This agreement will address the artist's obligations, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Materials
  • Timelines
  • Installation
