CALL FOR GALLERY PROPOSALS
Silverwood Park is seeking proposals for consideration for the 2025 gallery season in the Silverwood Park Gallery and Annex Gallery in the Visitor’s Center. Deadline: January 15, 2024
ABOUT THE PARK
Silverwood Park, a Three Rivers Park District facility located in St Anthony, MN, is devoted to the integration of artistic creation and nature-based experiences. We are a unique 120-acre park in the Twin Cities area, featuring Silver Lake, restored prairie, and mature oak forests. Nature-inspired artwork is exhibited in our gallery and throughout park and classes and programs are offered year-round. The main visitor’s center includes a gallery, café/coffee shop, sales gallery, and large event hall. Other amenities include education facilities, picnic sites, fishing opportunities, and paved trails.
The Silverwood Park Gallery is 1,300 square feet. Architectural details in the gallery include polished concrete floors, salvaged oak, high-beamed ceiling, natural light, and intimate fireplace. Modular display panels are custom designed and equipped with the Walker Hanging System. More information about the park is available at http://www.threeriversparks.org/parks/silverwood-park.aspx
ELIGIBILITY
Artists 18 years of age or older who primarily live or work in the Midwest are invited to submit proposals individually or collaboratively.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Silverwood will select proposals based on artistic quality, capability, and impact as evidenced by representation of past work and other supporting materials. Ideal proposals will support the mission of Silverwood Park and use art as a vehicle for inspiration, exploration, and connection to the natural world. Certain work might require the submission of additional information or materials. Applications might be retained for future consideration.
GUIDELINES & EXHIBITION SPACE
Materials used should be appropriate to an indoor environment. 2D and 3D work is accepted, however, size and space limitations apply. The Walker Hanging System is used on the walls and panels. The use of non-permanent and non-damaging materials or products is permissible on walls, panels, floors, windows, and beams.
The main gallery is an open space with large windows, limited wall space, and uses 8 movable displays that create 32 surfaces approximately 4 by 6 feet in natural wood finish. Gallery provides 15 pedestals with a 15 by 15 inch display surface in natural wood finish. Of the pedestals, 5 are 24 inches tall, 5 are 30 inches tall, and 5 are 36 inches tall. Five additional pedestals (36 inches tall) can be fitted with vitrines. The annex gallery offers approximately 80 feet of wall space, spanning two spaces.
BUDGET
Artists are responsible for all associated expenses related to design, fabrication, insurance, transportation, installation, and de-installation. Artists receive a small stipend.
INSTALLATION
Costs related to transport and installation of the work will be the sole responsibility of the artist unless otherwise stipulated. Silverwood’s exhibition coordinator will install the work or work with artist to install it. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Silverwood will provide signage, promotional materials, and opening reception.
DURATION
Duration of installation is approximately 7- 8 weeks and in some cases, 1 month. Work is to be continuously displayed during this time. Silverwood Park reserves the right to request that the artist remove or repair a work at any time during this period if circumstances require.
Proposals are reviewed with consideration to the 2025 gallery season in the main and annex galleries. Artists may state preference of location and month, however, this does not guarantee we can meet requests.
PROMOTION
Silverwood Park retains responsibility for advertisement of work through listing in an events calendar, onsite fliers, e-card, and postcards as well as through the Three Rivers Park District website, social media sites, and email. Silverwood may include exhibitions in educational programs at the park. Any additional desired advertisement will be the responsibility of the artist.
ART SALES
Art can be for sale. Silverwood Park retains 30% of the sale price. Any sold artwork will remain on display at the park as per contract signed between the artist and Silverwood.
LIABILITY
Silverwood Park is not liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged work, however, Silverwood handles incidents on a case-by-case basis and compensates the artist for loss or damage.
