In the summer of 2024, the Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University presents the 2nd Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition, organized by the staff of the museum.  

This juried display, originally intended to occur at Gonzaga University every third summer but postponed by the pandemic, seeks to present the diversity and dynamism of contemporary artistic activity in the Inland Northwest while celebrating the relationship between art and the local landscape. 

The 2nd Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition is presented at the Jundt Art Museum at Gonzaga University in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Expo ’74, and in celebration of the legacy of creativity, community, and environmental stewardship that drives Spokane to this day. In 1974, Spokane became the smallest city in history to host the World’s Fair. As an environmentally focused event, the Spokane World’s Fair sparked a transformation in the heart of our city that became the catalyst for sustainable growth in our region. This exhibition is one of the many events during the 50th anniversary of Expo ’74, celebrated May 4 to July 4, 2024.

Selection of works and award winners for the 2nd Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition will again be made by the staff of the Jundt Art Museum.  Works will be chosen for the show based upon the museum staff’s understanding of artistic quality and merit; the work’s adherence to the landscape theme and issues, and the themes of creativity, community, and environmental stewardship as part of the anniversary of Expo ’74; the educational and professional achievements of the artist; and the observance of the rules and guidelines of the application process.

The first Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition was held at the Jundt Art Museum from May 26 to August 11, 2018, and attracted almost 4,000 visitors to campus during the summer months.  The award winners for the 2018 show included 1st place winner Amalia Fisch (Spokane, Washington) for her oil on canvas painting Kettle River Patchwork, and 2nd place winner Scott Bailey (East Wenatchee, Washington) for his painting 46˚ 51’ 06” N 121˚ 45’ 28” W (Delaunay Triangulation).  Honorable mention awards were given to Owen McAuley (Cheney, Washington), Dennis Smith (Medical Lake, Washington), and Gregg Schlanger (Ellensburg, Washington).

List of deadlines: 2024

• January 26  Submission deadline for all materials on CaFÉ and the payment of one-time $25 entry fee.
• February 5  Exhibition acceptances announced by the jury/museum.
• February 26  Artists must provide publication-ready, high-quality images of each accepted work of art.
• April 1   List of up to 20 addresses for a postcard mailing provided to the museum.
• May 22 to May 24   Delivery of all works of art to the loading dock of the Jundt Art Museum.
• May 28   Exhibition installation by the museum commences.
• May 31  Reception and award ceremony; free and open to the public; 4-7pm.
• June 1, 10am   2nd Triennial Inland Northwest Juried Landscape Art Exhibition opens to the public.
• August 24, 4pm  Exhibition closes to the public.
• August 26 and August 27  All works of art must be picked up from the museum.

Application Requirements

Finalists will be notified of their inclusion in the exhibition no later than February 5, 2024. Award winners will be announced at the reception on May 31. 

First prize is $1000. The second place winner will receive $500, and the recipient of any honorable mentions will receive $250. Sponsored awards might also be available. 

Submissions must follow all guidelines as stated within this prospectus. 

Artists may submit up to three different works of art with each work having no more than one image each which shows the entire work of art. The submission deadline for all materials is Friday, January 26, 2024, 11:59pm PST.

Processing of the one-time $25 entry fee is managed through CaFÉ.

Each artist must provide a biography, including major educational and professional achievements, and upload the biography as a file as part of the application process.

Proof of residency is required of artists as part of the application process.

Eligibility Criteria

An artist applying for the exhibition must be a resident of one of the following counties, and must be able to prove residency in one of these counties in the Inland Northwest: 

Washington: Adams, Asotin, Benton, Chelan, Columbia, Douglas, Ferry, Franklin, Garfield, Grant, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lincoln, Okanogan, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens, Walla Walla, Whitman, or Yakima. 

Idaho: Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce, or Shoshone.

Proof of residency is required of artists as part of the application process.  Proof will be a digital/scanned copy—saved as a JPEG file or other acceptable file under 2MB—of a mortgage or rental statement, a driver’s license, or a bill from a utility company with the name and address clearly legible, and uploaded as part of the online application process.  No exceptions to the residency requirement will be made.
