Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA), in partnership with the City of Oberlin, invites artists and craftspeople of all mediums to register for the 2nd annual FAVA's Art Fair in the Square in Oberlin, Ohio’s historic downtown Tappan Square.

 Images: minimum of 3; maximum of 6 (include examples of work, and at least one of display if available)

Confirmation of Acceptance: We will approve applications by Aug. 7th. Early applications may be notified at an earlier date.

Set up: 

Saturday September 14th, 2024 at 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. 

Vendor check-in: Saturday, September 14th, 2024 at the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts table in Tappan Square, from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m.

 Hospitality and parking will be available at FAVA Gallery 39 S Main St #210, Oberlin, OH 44074 for the duration of the Art Fair. Including access to restrooms, coffee station, and snacks.

Artists will be allowed one 10’ x 10’ space for the purpose of setting up a booth/table for the sale of handmade items. Booth numbers will be assigned by August 14th.

Food truck parking spaces will be available along the East and South side of Tappan Square.  Live music will be featured at the Clark Bandstand.

GENERAL INFORMATION

MARKETING:

For purposes of the art fair guide, exhibitors should provide us with a "doing business as" (DBA) name if they have one. Otherwise, vendors should indicate how they would like to be listed in the art fair guide and on the website. 

AMENITIES AND SERVICES:

  • Artist Hospitality: morning coffee, water and snacks throughout the day at hospitality location, and access to indoor restrooms.

 

ART CATEGORIES:

2D Mixed Media: Two-dimensional work which combines materials from two or more mediums in one piece.

3D Mixed Media: Three-dimensional work which combines materials from two or more mediums in one piece.

Candle & Soap Making: Handmade bath & body products including naturals, oils, lotions, salts, fragrance etc.

Ceramics: Original clay and porcelain work, functional or sculptural.

Digital Art: Includes any original work in which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using the computer.   

Drawing: Work created using dry media including chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax, crayons, etc. or from a fluid medium of inks and washes applied by pen/brush.  

Fiber: Includes leather, baskets, weaving, dolls, paper, textiles, wearable and non-wearable. 

Food & Beverage: All items intended to be consumed upon sale. Packaged foods are not in this category.

Furniture: Original, handmade furniture designed and fabricated using raw/unfinished material. Factory-produced items, regardless of additional modification or enhancement by the artists, are not accepted.

Glass: Functional and sculptural work are accepted. Kiln-forming, blowing, molding or casting, as well as all cold working processes are permitted. 

Jewelry: All jewelry must be made or assembled by hand, whether produced from metal, glass, clay, fiber, or other materials.

Metal smithing: Sculptural or decorative work made from metal. 

Painting: Acrylic, oil, gouache, and watercolor paintings are accepted in this medium.  

Photography: Includes traditional film photography, hand colored images, emulsion transfers, and digital photography.  Only the artist's original source material is acceptable. All work displayed in the booth must be for sale. Signage of an overtly commercial nature listing the availability of numerous sizes, print surfaces, and/or framing options is prohibited.

Printmaking: Hand pulled original prints. 

Sculpture:  Three-dimensional work using additive or subtractive processes in a single medium.

Wood: Original works that are hand-tooled, machine-worked, turned or carved.

Other: If none of the above descriptions describe your work please explain in your application.

FAVA urges exhibitors to demonstrate their craft if/when possible.

RULES/REGULATIONS

Before applying, please make sure your work meets the following criteria. By applying you agree to abide by the rules, policies and decisions of the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts.

  1. All work must be original, handcrafted work which complies with the media definitions listed in this prospectus.
  2. An application is a commitment to show and no refund will be made for cancellations. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. Artists and crafters must exhibit for the full duration of the art fair.  Noncompliance will preclude you from being in future festivals.  Artists and crafters are required to man their exhibits during festival hours. 
  4. Commercially manufactured items (i.e. finished ceramics, jewelry, commercial molds, patterns, kits etc.) are NOT ACCEPTABLE.  All items must be hand crafted by the applicant. 
  5. Exhibitors bear the responsibility for all setup and security needs for their exhibits.  NEITHER FAVA, the City of Oberlin, OH, or its representatives, will be responsible for loss or damage of any kind.  
  6. All work exhibited must be of the quality and type of that shown in the juried images. 
  7. Artists and crafters must provide their own display booths, racks, tables and chairs.  They should also be prepared for the possibility of inclement weather conditions such as wind and rain.  Be prepared to weigh down or stake tents.  
  8. A single artist, or artist group/guild can purchase more than one 10’x10’ booth space if coordinated with event host (FAVA) and payment is made for additional booth space via invoice no later than the July 3rd deadline.
  9. NO on-site gas-powered generators are allowed. NO amplified music permitted.  

BOOTH INFORMATION:

Artists and crafters must confine themselves to the 10x10space or must buy a second booth (Exhibits may not extend beyond 10x10– this is strictly enforced).   No boxes or chairs are allowed in the pedestrian traffic area. Boxes must be confined to the booth space area (10'x10') or stored in a vehicle/trailer during the event. Tents must be weighted or staked. Electricity is not available for exhibitors.

Set up begins Saturday September 14th, 2024 at 7 a.m. and must be completed by 10 a.m. 

Be sure to prepare for inclement weather. Bring weights, etc. to secure your booth in case of inclement weather.  We cannot be responsible for any damage due to weather.

Why is the art fair juried?

Jurying is done to filter out non-applicable vendors ex. resellers, commercial businesses.

By submitting this application, the exhibitor verifies that he/she is directly involved with each piece of work to be exhibited, and that the work meets the Rules for Participation as set forth.                                   

No refunds of booth fees will be given.               

The Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) nor the City of Oberlin, OH are responsible for theft, loss, or damage to your work or personal property, or against personal injury to you or your helpers. You are advised to obtain your own insurance. The applicant agrees and releases The Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) and the City of Oberlin, OH from any damage to personal property or personal injury which the art fair applicant, or helpers may sustain while participating in FAVA’s Art Fair in the Square                                              

If accepted, you agree to the use of your images by The Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) and the City of Oberlin, OH for promotional purposes.                                          

By submitting this application you agree that you have read and understand the requirements for participation in the FAVA’s Art Fair in the Square, September 14, 2024. You understand that check-in should be completed between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m, and that set up must be completed between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m Saturday September 14th, 2024. You understand that any applicable taxes are the responsibility of each individual artist. You agree to abide by the rules, policies, and guidelines of FAVA’s Art Fair in the Square and understand that failure to follow these regulations may result in the expulsion from this year's festival, and/or from future festivals, at the sole discretion of FAVA’s Art Fair in the Square. 

Application Requirements

Applicant must be an artist, guild, art club, or craftsperson.

 A minimum of 3; maximum of 6 photos that include examples of work, and at least one of display if available should be submitted with application.

The application fee of $35.00 must be submitted by the July 3, 2024 deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

Artists, guilds, art clubs, or craftspersons should be 18 years or older. Minors wishing to apply should be accompanied by an adult who will be present at all times and will complete the application process as guardian of the minor(s).

NOTE: Please input your information exactly as you want it to appear on art fair materials, mailings, registration check-in, etc. (e.g. John Smith Studio vs. John Smith studio or JOHN SMITH STUDIO)
