ELIGIBLE WORK FOR THE EXHIBITION Paintings in watercolor and/or other water based media including acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempera and water soluble ink on paper or Yupo. No canvas, digital, computer generated, water soluble oil or Gicleé art. Collage elements will be accepted if the adhered paper pieces are painted in watermedia by the artist. No computer generated, digital or printed clippings will be allowed. If other mediums are used, water based media must dominate the piece. All entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2020 and not have been painted under supervision. Works may not infringe upon another’s copyright. If photo references are used, they must be the artist’s own photographs. Paintings accepted for previous VWS juried exhibitions are ineligible.
ENTRY FEE A maximum of three (3) digital images may be submitted. Entry fee for 1-3 images is $40.00. Entry fee may be paid online or by mailing a check to: A.J. Eccles, 1115 Rhode Island Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24502.

SPECIFICATIONS: All accepted paintings must hang for the duration of the exhibit. Paintings must be ready for hanging with appropriate hanging hardware and hanging wire, framed under plexiglass or acrylic glazing (no glass), using only white or off-white matting. Poorly matted or framed paintings may be disqualified.
Minimum Frame Size in any direction is 16 inches.
Maximum frame size in any direction is 44 inches.
This includes diptychs and triptychs, which must be in a single frame. Please include on the back of the painting: artist’s name, phone number, title of the painting, medium and price/NFS. This information must match your entry form information.
Application Requirements
METHOD OF SELECTION Juror Eric Wiegardt, https://www.ericwiegardt.com/ will select no more than one painting per artist from digital images. Artists will be notified of the juror’s choice. Selected paintings must then be submitted for the exhibition. Final selections will be from the actual submitted paintings with the juror’s and receiving committee’s right of refusal.
Please ensure what you list on your entry matches the painting you deliver for the exhibition.
NOTIFICATION All artists will be notified of the juror's decision by email by March 15, 2024
Hand-delivered paintings – will be received on Friday, April 26, 2024 11:00am - 4:00pm and Saturday, April 27, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Deliver to: Academy Center of the Arts 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504
Pick-up will be on Saturday, July 29, 11am - 3pm and Sunday, July 30, 12pm - 3pm, at Academy Center of the Arts, 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
Shipped paintings - must be delivered April 22-26, 2024 and must include prepaid return shipping. Specify "Signature Required" and include recipient email: tbatt@academycenter.org or 434-528-3256 EXT 127. Send FEDEX or UPS - not through post office. Ship to: Ted Batt, VWS 45th Exhibition, Academy Center of the Arts, 600 Main Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Shipped works will be sent back on July 8-9, 2024. Shipping instructions will be provided to accepted exhibition members.
AWARDS Awards will be given at the discretion of the juror. The top award of $1,500 is provided by the Virginia Watercolor Society
Every care will be taken by the VWS, the 2024 Exhibition Committee and Academy Center of the Arts. Artwork will be covered by insurance while on exhibit for current market or appraised value (minus any commissions). It is suggested that artists wishing protection during shipping insure their works independently. VWS and The Academy Center of the Arts have artist’s permission to use an image of accepted painting for publicity purposes. Submission of a work to the exhibition shall constitute an agreement to comply with all conditions set in this prospectus. If a submitted painting is found to be non-compliant it will not be exhibited and it will be returned to the artist in the
manner it was delivered. The artist will not be eligible to submit to the 2025 Exhibition.

All submissions must include prices. Not For Sale (“NFS”) is acceptable. Please include insurance value of NFS. Prices as listed on entry form may not be changed. A 35% commission will be charged by Academy Center of the Arts on sales. Please consider this fee when determining your price. Members will have to provide a W-9 form to ACOA to complete the transaction. It is not necessary to provide the W-9 prior to the exhibition.
