JUROR - Michael Magrin

Since moving to Colorado from New York in 2001,  Michael has sought to capture the ubiquitous elements of the western landscape through oil painting with an emphasis on the sky. He is interested in how we visually and emotionally experience the landscape. His paintings reflect a nostalgia of place and render a feeling of peace while trying not to sacrifice these greater truths for lesser details. Mindful of a contemporary expression, his earlier work focused on the elements of composition and value all within a square format.

THE SKIES THE LIMIT - 3 Day Workshop - Magrin will teach a 3 day oil painting workshop at Lincoln Gallery on July 30, 31, and August 1, 2024. Magrin will demonstrate his approach to painting skies and break down complex concepts into manageable steps for all levels of painters.
Hands-on practice: engage in daily painting exercises designed to refine your skills and encourage experimentation with new techniques.

Personalized feedback: receive individual critique and guidance from a professional who understands the intricacies of sky painting.

Materials and techniques: gain insights into the best materials for sky painting and how to use them effectively to depict the beauty of the sunset or daytime sky.

If possible, put your painting on a bright light, neutral wall, and put your camera (or phone) on a tripod to take the photo. Having the best possible photograph of your work makes it much more likely that you will be juried in. Search online for more information (videos and articles) on taking better photos of your work.
