This International Exhibition will be prominently featured at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in our expansive Hope / McClennen Exhibition Hall. All interpretations on the theme of Departures will be reviewed by internationally recognized artist, curator and  gallery owner Nick Lawrence! Three (3) monetary prizes will be awarded by the juror: $500, $200, $100

The theme DEPARTURES is intended to be interpreted broadly.

Advancements in art result from daring and risk-taking. Aberration fuels evolution. In this call, artists are asked to submit artworks that exemplify a moment of departure from conventional styles or methods of creating. Two possible approaches to the theme are outlined below, but any interpretation of the theme will be considered.

  • Have you ever made a work of art that surprised even you? Perhaps a painting, sculpture or video that that represents a departure from your typical body of work? Artists often develop in leaps and bounds. In this call, submit a breakthrough piece of art that has led to a lasting stylistic change or one that persists as a personal anomaly.

       OR

  • Modernist approaches to art making have been labeled through “isms” like impressionism, cubism or expressionism. Movements that are, in turn, emulated by other artists. But today, the labeling of new visual styles is less common, and breaking the rules is more widely accepted. This is your chance to share your innovative works of art that broaden the definition of art itself.

Whichever thematic approach you decide to choose in this International Juried Exhibition, artworks that represent a departure from conventional norms in the larger world of art or from your own personal practices are encouraged. How will you respond to this theme? Each artwork submission must be made in Separate Applications. Up to five (5) artworks/applications per artist at $25 per artwork/application.

Artwork selected for the exhibition can be made available to the public for sale, with 60% of the proceeds going directly to you - the artist, and 40% to the CCMoA. We will also be making this exhibition available virtually on our CCMoA website and three prizes will be awarded by the juror: $500, $200 and $100.
