Rosemary Beach, Florida is a pristine coastal community known for its stunning natural flora, white sand beaches, and architectural beauty. Featured in Southern Living, Architectural Digest and Atlanta Magazine, the architectural design of the community was inspired by West Indies, St. Augustine, FL and New Orleans, LA. RBSE is seeking unique outdoor sculptures to enhance the picturesque and natural seaside environment.

We invite artists from all around the world working in the design, construction, and installation of outdoor sculpture, to submit applications. This biennial exhibition, opening in Fall of 2024 and running for one year, seeks to showcase the diverse talents and creativity of artists while complementing the stunning natural landscape that defines Rosemary Beach. All entries must be submitted online via CaFE’ at CallForEntry.org. Application deadline is May 1, 2024. RBSE is a nonprofit arts exhibition organization.

DESIGN PARAMETERS: Locations for outdoor sculptures have been selected throughout the Rosemary Beach community. Visit our website at www.rosemarybeachsculpture.com to see visual areas of previous exhibitions.

Sculptures must adhere to the following design parameters:

  • Pose no risk of injury to the public (i.e. sharp edges, slip hazards, flammable materials).
  • Must be able to be semi-permanently fixed/not easily removed from a heavy base.
  • Must not require maintenance for the duration of the exhibition.
  • Able to withstand all weather conditions, high temperatures, direct sunlight, humidity, and salt air.
  • Guaranteed against defects and deterioration.
  • Must be safe, stable, and durable enough to be placed in public spaces and may be touched, climbed on, etc. by the public.
  • Able to be viewed in-the-round to enhance the three-dimensional characteristics of each piece.
  • Are original, complete works of art created by the artist.
  • Can be created using any medium, such as metal, wood, stone, glass or any combination thereof. Interactive or kinetic sculptures are also welcome.

INSTALLATION: Artists are responsible for the transportation, installation, and removal of their sculptures. Assistance and equipment will be provided.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR: A printed map and self-guided tour will be developed in conjunction with Otocast, (mobile tour guide app) once sculptures are selected and the placement locations determined. Each artist will be asked to provide a 3-minute verbal introduction of themselves, their art-making process, and the inspiration behind their sculpture. This content must be downloadable onto smartphones.

Application Requirements

ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS: Experienced sculptors are invited to submit their work for consideration. Artists must have documented experience with the design and construction of outdoor sculpture.

TIMELINE: Application deadline is May 1, 2024. Finalists will be notified on or before June1,2024. Artists will be required to deliver or ship their sculpture to Rosemary Beach and assist in the mounting between September 15 and October 15, 2024. Sculpture Exhibition events will be scheduled during the week of the opening ceremony and artists are encouraged to attend. Event details will be provided once finalists are selected. Complimentary lodging for two nights will be provided to sculptors participating in events.

DURATION OF EXHIBITION: Opening to the public in October 2024 and running through October 2025.

VENUES FOR SCULPTURES: There are a variety of sites within the town center and residential areas of Rosemary Beach where sculptures will be displayed. These include:

  • expansive greens
  • pocket parks
  • gardens
  • town square

APPLICATION PROCESS: Submit the following materials to CaFE’ at CallForEntry.org by May 1, 2024.

Only complete applications will be considered:

  • Submit one application per sculpture. 
  • Artist bio outlining education, training, and exhibition and project history.
  • The Artist’s statement is a key component of the application and should include the meaning and interpretation of the sculpture.
  • Sculpture title, medium, dimensions, and the year of the work being submitted.
  • Up to five low resolution images including multiple angles.
  • Low resolution images of previous relevant projects, substantiating experience in the construction of outdoor sculpture. Please include title, medium, dimensions, and year for each previous project.
  • Specification for all materials, accompanied by an explanation of how these materials will withstand environmental elements.
  • Contact details including, email address, phone number, mailing address and website.

ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS: Approximately ten sculptures will be selected based on the quality of concept, design, and execution of the vision. A panel of art experts, local community members, and representatives from Rosemary Beach will carefully review all submissions and select a diverse range of sculptures based on creativity, quality, and the ability to enhance our coastal community environment. Selected artists will be notified and further instructions for installation and logistics will be provided at that time.

CONSIGNMENT CONTRACT: A consignment contract will be drafted for each selected work outlining consignment dates, value, photography/reproduction policies, and insurance terms. The contract will also specify whether sculptures are for sale through the Rosemary Beach Sculpture Exhibition or on loan only. We encourage artists to include sales prices in their submission. There will be a 30% commission fee for any sold sculptures. At the end of the exhibition, sculptors are required to remove their work no later than December 31, 2025.

INSURANCE: Artists reserve the right to insure their loaned works. RosemaryBeach Sculpture Exhibition will issue limited insurance on exhibited works.

HONORARIUM AND AWARDS: All artists whose work is selected for exhibition will be offered a $3,000 honorarium once the sculpture has been delivered and mounted in place. In addition, an award of $2,000 will be given to the artist whose sculpture is chosen as the First Place winner and an award of $1,000 will be given to the Second Place winner.
