Michigan Ceramics is a Biennial Show sponsored by MCAA to celebrate the Ceramic Arts in Michigan.
The show is open to all visual artists who have lived, studied or worked within the State of Michigan. This is not limited to but includes current and former residents, those who have completed studies within any form of higher education throughout the state, and those who maintain professional affiliations with entities in the state. The mission of MCAA is to expand and strengthen the network of community members.
Show includes all ceramics with prizes organized by 2 categories:

5+ Sponsor Awards
Artists are asked to self-identify in one of 5 categories that best describes their current practice, goals and or activities in the field of ceramic arts. Sponsor awards will be used to recognize one artist in each category.
Artist Identities
Applicants are asked to check with category they place themselves under to assist with the jury process.
Established Artist - Artists who have been practicing or working in the field for 10 or more years.
Emerging Artist - Artists who have been practicing or working in the field for less than 10 years.
Enthusiast - individuals who create for pure pleasure over any span of time with no business or academic involvement. If you have a personal business in the field, you would be considered in either the emerging or established artist category.
Educator - individuals who teach as a profession within K-12 schools, colleges, universities, art centers, private/public studios. This includes individuals who also provide instruction for either degree seeking or non-degree seeking individuals with knowledge that informs and betters ones practice and craft.
Student - individuals actively enrolled in classes through private/public studios, art centers, colleges, and universities. Degree seeking or full-time status are NOT requirements for student classification.
An additional category celebrates K-12 students currently in the Michigan Public and Private school systems. Individual awards will be given to one student from each level including Elementary, Middle and High school. In-Kind prizes will be to both the students and schools. Teachers are asked to assist students with the application process.

Artist Bio
Born and raised in the border city of El Paso, TX, George Rodriguez creates highly ornamented, figurative ceramic sculptures, often underlined by a connection to the sociopolitical issues the artist explores. Rodriguez holds a BFA from the University of Texas El Paso and an MFA in ceramics from the University of Washington, Seattle. His world curiosity grew as a recipient of a Bonderman Travel Fellowship where he traveled the world through most of 2010. His work has shown at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Bainbridge Island, WA; Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, WA; Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA; Canton Art Museum, Canton, OH and others. His sculptures are part of the collections of the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, IL; the University of Washington's Paul G. Allen College of Computer Science and Engineering, Seattle, WA; the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem, OR; Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C. and the National Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. George was featured on PBS Craft in America "Storytellers" episode and has created a large public sculpture for the new Kansas City Airport which opened March 2023.

A nonrefundable $40 (includes 12 month membership in MCAA ) entry fee is required at the time of application.
All wall hangings works must be securely wired for hanging. Cleat or hooks must be attached securely to the back of the piece.

Images should be high resolution .jpg images and recommended that files be < 2MB.
The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center will use submitted images of accepted works for the exhibit catalog and promotional materials for this exhibit.
Shipping materials will be kept for returning work. Only boxes, crates and bins with proper labels including the artist’s contact information and the name of the piece will be kept for repackaging of hand delivered works. Ship accepted works to: Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, 1516 S Cranbrook Road, Birmingham, MI 48009. Shipped works will be returned to the artist at the artist‘s expense. A return shipping label must be included when originally shipped for the exhibit. We strongly encourage you to insure shipping your work both ways. Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center is only responsible for damage to work while it is here on the property not while in transit. Internationally accepted, please review the country of origin shipping and customs regulations and the best way for Us customs to receive work. Regulations and rules change frequently and can cause artwork to be delayed in customs or returned to the artist. Often a commercial invoice is required for return shipping.
Works left at Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center past the pick-up dates (November 1-2) will be charged $10/day storage fee.
Inventory: All work must include the artist’s name, phone number and email address, the title(s) of the work(s), medium and price(s). If a piece is not for sale (NFS), indicate an insurance value. Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center will retain a 45% commission on the sale price.
