VIEW is partnering with the Guild of American Papercutters (GAP) to showcase an artform largely unknown in our region, but found in different forms throughout the world. It is called Scherenschnitte in German-speaking lands, Wycinanki in Poland, Jianzhi in China, and Papel Picado in Mexico.
The theme of “Paper Trails” references our trail-filled Adirondack home as well as the paths papercutting has followed from its origins to our own country. This juried exhibit will include works of original design that are created with scissors, craft knife, and even sheep shears.
The Guild of American Papercutters was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Somerset, PA, where it operates the National Museum of Papercutting. Its members, both national and international, range from beginner papercutters to professional, full-time artists and teachers. More information about GAP and becoming a member can be found at:

Juror of Selection, Melanie Kehoss:
Melanie holds an MFA from University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is a founding board member of the Arlington Visual Art Studio Tour and board member emeritus of the Guild of American Papercutters.Her work has appeared in over a hundred exhibits throughout the country, and has been featured in solo shows at venues such as Fred Schnider Gallery (Arlington, VA), McLean Project for the Arts (McLean, VA), Hillyer Art Space (Washington DC), and Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (Santa Ana, CA). She has also completed residencies at Vermont Studio Center, RAAM103 (Ghent, Belgium), and Georgetown University.

Image size should be framed dimensions of your work.
Submitting a work of art to this exhibition the artist agrees to the conditions and terms set forth in this Prospectus as well as in the Acceptance Notification Letter.
CaFÉ does not permit any image changes, replacements, or refunds after submission.
Please check your pricing carefully, price changes are not permitted after entry in CaFÉ. If your work is not for sale, make sure to list that where required in your application. By submitting your pricing through CaFÉ, you agree to sell that work at the price submitted.
Eligibility Criteria
-Up to 3 pieces can be entered
- All work must be able to be moved/placed by one person.
- All entries must be of original design and personal execution created within the past 10 years.
- Artwork previously shown at View is not eligible.
View is a public non-profit art center open to everyone; as such, the content of submissions should be appropriate for all visitors.
Fees
- A non-refundable entry fee of $30 ($20 for View members & GAP members) enables the artist to submit one work. Each artist may submit a total of 3 works at a cost of an additional $5 per image after the 1st submission. Payment should be made at CallforEntry.org (CaFÉ).
Legal
- All works must be of original design and copyright of the artist.
- View reserves the right to utilize all images submitted to Paper Trails in promotion of the exhibition and for the general promotion of View.
- View may rescind the right of hanging any work unsuitably presented or misrepresented.
Selected Works
Full instructions for shipping and delivery will be provided in the Acceptance Notification Letter.
- Selection notification will be sent by May 1, 2024
- Selected artwork must be received at View no later than May 24, 2024.
- View receives 35% commission on any sales made during or resulting from the exhibition at View.
- Selected artwork must be suitably framed and ready for installation.
- All shipping is at the expense of the artist. There will be a $10 handling fee for each package shipped to View. The handling fee covers condition reporting and photographing of the work as it arrives, and follow up conditioning and repacking at the conclusion of the exhibition. You must include a prepaid shipping label for the return of the work. Accepted artists will receive detailed information regarding shipping and handling requirements.
