The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries for artists in any medium 18 or older living in the Midwest for a Juried Exhibition. Cash awards total $4,000.00.
This exhibition seeks to highlight the richness found in contemporary Midwest makers and the wide variety of techniques, styles, and aesthetics of the region. The intention of this exhibition is to feature works in a variety of media ranging from traditional processes to contemporary and new media processes.
Two Curator’s Choice Award winners will be awarded a Solo Show each at the Indianapolis Art Center.
About the Juror:
Kyle Herrington is a curator and mixed media artist originally from Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kyle has been curating professionally for over 15 years, focusing primarily on projects that center the work of emerging, underrepresented, and queer artists and collectives. Kyle holds significant experience serving stakeholders and audiences of community arts organizations, most notably during his 11 years at the Indianapolis Art Center, where served as the Director of Exhibitions and Events from 2014 – 2020. Most recently, Kyle was Curator-in-Residence at the Fire Island Artist Residency in Summer 2023, where he now serves on the Board of Directors.
Kyle has organized and curated over 50 exhibitions under a curatorial philosophy that is inherently collaborative and transdisciplinary - drawing upon a multivalent array of approaches, mediums, and scholarship, with exhibitions ranging from solo shows and thematic group exhibits to public art projects. He has also worked extensively with collections, from private holdings to institutional archives and collections such as The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction, Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College, and The Institute for Studies on Latin American Art. Additionally, Kyle has exhibited and written about the work of many notable and highly regarded artists such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Roberto Jacoby, Feliciano Centurión, Sable Elyse Smith, Jacolby Satterwhite, K8 Hardy, Mike Kelley, and Tom Burr among others.
Kyle holds a BFA in Fine Arts from Ball State University and an MA in Curatorial Studies from The Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College.
Eligibility:
-This exhibit is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Minnesota, Iowa, or Missouri.
-Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center.
-All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team. Collaborative works made between artists are eligible for inclusion.
Media:
-All media eligible. Installation artists should contact us before applying to ensure compatibility of space.
-2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be bigger than 10’ x 10’.

Five Honorable Mention Awards - $200.00 each

Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception in a public ceremony.

Application Requirements
Entry Fee/Images:
$35 non-refundable entry fee for the submission of two pieces. $5 additional for each submission up to 6 pieces. Each artist or artist team may submit up to six pieces of work for jurying.
